Great views, very challenging hike. My only complaint was the food, which I think could have been better, and I am not a picky eater. Be prepared with layered clothing, snacks, toilet paper, plenty of water, a little mlm money (bathroom use is 1 soles) and some oxygen if your not feeling the altitude--even if you take the horses up. Also, do it early! Kevin and Coco are awesome guides.Although this was probably the hardest thing I've ever done physically, it was absolutely worth it for the reward at the end, the amazing view and the sense of accomplishment! Although this was probably the hardest thing I've ever done physically, it was absolutely worth it for the reward at the end, the amazing view and the sense of accomplishment! My husband and I got lucky and it was just us two in our group, so we had personal attention from our guide, Edgar. The entire process was great, Edgar came and met us in our hotel the evening before the hike to give us all of the information we needed, and was there early in the morning to pick us up. It is a long drive, but you get a break two hours in for a very nice breakfast. After another, very bumpy, hour drive you arrive at the mountain. We immediately felt the effects of the altitude as we just climbed the initial steps to start the hike, and knew that all we heard was true and that it was going to be a tough one! Walking in flat areas was fine, but sadly you won't get much of that on the way up, it's a good bit of incline, with a bunch of stairs and a much steeper incline near the end. My husband struggled with the altitude pretty bad, so we ended up taking horses for part of it, which helped. With the encouragement of Edgar, I was able to make it all the way to the top, each time I would tell him I didn't think I could make it farther, he would motivate me further. I'm so thankful for this because you really do get the most amazing view from the very top point! The key is to just take it slow and take breaks when needed, we were very grateful that Edgar was so patient with us! The way back down is much, much easier and a nice break. The lunch that you get on the way back to your hotel is delicious, and you get so much food! Also, we made the mistake of going the first day after we arrived in Cusco, what others say is accurate, you do want to give yourself more time to acclimate, take that advice because we didn't and I'm sure we made it more difficult on ourselves. The upside is that everything else we did on our trip seemed easy compared to this! In short, if you're thinking of doing this hike, you absolutely should! It will be hard, but if you take your time you can make it.I had an amazing time. Kevin and Coco were great leaders that allowed us to travel at our own pace. They provided us with blankets for the early morning bus ride and walking sticks for the hike. The view is definitely worth the time it takes to get to the mountain.

probably one of the most difficult hikes i personally have ever done, especially being a native person to level low altitudes. Kevin was such an inspiration and definitely helped me find that little extra to push through to the top, he played "eye of the tiger" for the final few hundred yards to the peak which was awesome! once you reach to summit you forget all about the trek up and take in unbelievable views of rainbow mountain
