Private Tequila Tour By Mickey Marentes
Overview
This tour is ideal for couples and small groups of friends, family and co-workers. Wedding Anniversary, honeymoon, birthday, bachelor(ette) party - whatever your reason to celebrate, we can help make your special occasion even more memorable!
Both distilleries visited are family-owned and have long standing tradition of producing tequila; one was established in 1904. Once in a while, you may have the chance to meet the producers or distillery owners and exchange with them.
The Tour is all-yours: photo stops, breaks and return time are at your convenience. Most importantly, you have the guide’s full attention; there’s no “sharing” with other people!

My partner and I had a private tour for 2 from GDL to Tequila - it was a once in a lifetime experience. We visited the Cascahuin distillery where we got to see the whole Tequila-making process - the Pinas being packed into the oven, Tahona stone mill, fermentation pools, distillation machines, the oak barrels - to finally tasting the Tequila. Afterwards we stopped by El Guero for cantaritos drinks. Super relaxing and chill, having a drink, with the mariachi band playing, staring out into the blue agave fields. The tacos there were amazing too. Then we went to the Atanasio distillery where Rene gave us a private tour on his van and drove us out to the agave field where we learned about how blue agave is harvested. We toured the distillery which had a slightly different process than Cascahuin, and then sat down to taste the tequila. Then we had barbecue - the queso fundido with chorizo was so good! After that we did a quick lap around the Tequila main street and bought souvenirs. Heqdsup, for your tour you can customize how much time you spend at any point. The tour gave me a much deeper understanding and appreciation for Tequila. Special thanks to our guide Janet, she did a great job. She's studying the craft of making tequila and you can tell she really loves Tequila and knows her stuff. Thanks Janet! What a great experience! What a great experience! I began to e-mail with Miguel a few months back as I was planning this tour for a group of 12, which included two children. I let Miguel know that I wanted to do something special to celebrate my husband’s birthday and Miguel was extremely responsive, helpful and accommodating. He helped me plan the perfect day from beginning to end. Pick up at the hotel was prompt and fit our group comfortably in one van. Both the driver and tour guide, Edgar were professional and courteous. Edgar is extremely knowledgeable and explained the entire tequila production process. We visited two distilleries, the Tequila museum, the small town and a stop for cantaritos. We enjoyed my husband’s birthday lunch at a beautiful location, with excellent service, food and drinks. Never once did our group feel rushed and the attention to detail was amazing. Our entire group enjoyed this trip and I can’t thank Miguel and his team enough. I highly recommend this craft tequila tour.Mickey Marentes runs a highly professional and well organized tour business. Mickey Marentes runs a highly professional and well organized tour business. Our private tour of the Cascahuin distillery (a family favorite) was interesting and informative. Our guide was Edgar, who happens to be an entrepreneur with several acres of agave tequilana plants, so he has hands-on experience. Edgar was happy to share his knowledge of the tequila business, agriculture, and the various production methods, good and bad. He is also “muy simpático” as we say in México. Cascahuin is one of the good guys. They use an artisanal process in the production of their “Tahona” line and private label Siembra Valles Ancestral that is made with hand crushed fire roasted agave and a Filipino still made of wood. These products are performance art you can drink. And drink we did! The entire line is delicious. We continued our tour with a visit to a semi-industrial tequila factory, for contrast. The difference is day and night. For us it’s artisanal tequila or nothing. Our tour ended at the historic town of Arandas. There we had a relaxing “comida” at the colonial era “Ruina Chimulco.” The parrillada (a grilled meat extravaganza) was tender, delicious and plentiful, and included in the price of the tour. Thank you Mickey! I give Mickey’s tour SIX out of FIVE stars! Next up, the Mickey Marentes s mezcal tour in México City! What a fantastic tour! What a fantastic tour! We had so much fun and our guides, Melissa and Salvador (Chivva?) were excellent. They were very knowledgeable and were very professional. The van we traveled in was very clean and comfortable. We had an awesome visit to Cava del Oro distillery and were treated to many samples of their tequilas and mezcal. After to distillery we went to an old hacienda off of the beaten path for a lunch that was out of this world. After lunch we walked around Tequila for a bit. Lots of the distilleries and shops were closed due to Covid-19 but we were able to experience the town and the local culture. Overall, we had a great experience and I highly recommend using Mickey Marentes and his group for a tequila tour! This was by far one of my best experiences! Our tour guide, Melissa, was excellent. This was by far one of my best experiences! Our tour guide, Melissa, was excellent. She was so accommodating to our group, extremely patient, and knowledgeable of the history of tequila. She answered all of our questions and made us feel so comfortable. We went to a charming town outside tequila and rode horses through the beautiful agave fields filled with butterflies, followed by local cuisine and of course a side of tequila. Then, we went to the town of Tequila where we walked around and tried lots of tequila. On our way back to Guadalajara, we stopped at a tequila distillery to learn how tequila was made, and we tried many stellar tequilas. I would highly recommend taking the tour with Melissa. She’s the best!!! Overall, it was like a dream come true!
