What to expect
Enjoy a private photography tour in the stunning Chilkat Valley. Your expert photographer guide will assist you in capturing the best of the Chilkat Valley's unique attractions.
Your guide has scouted out the best areas for the day's photo shoot. Since this is a private tour, you will be able to work directly with the guide to decide which locations and subject matter you want to focus on. Depending on the lighting and weather, different locations in the Chilkat Valley boast specific photographic highlights. May, June, and July feature wildflowers and bald eagles. Beginning in August, pink salmon begin their run up the Chilkoot River to spawn and brown bear often come down to the river to feed. When bears are present, every effort will be made to give you safe bear viewing and photography.
The theme is flexibility, fun and learning. A simple point and shoot camera or smartphone will work, but by all means, bring all your photo gear.

It was a good experience, the excellent guide, with a great career as a photographer his name is Cindy Shultz, he took me to the best places, the only thing that wildlife is unpredictable, we could see the eagle in the trees and hopefully before the end of the tour, a bear went out to the river. For running away because my ship was already leaving, I left some of my photography equipment, which kindly they called me and sent it to my house without any chargeWhile booked through my Seabourn cruise, I was fortunate to only have one other person on my tour with Cindy. While booked through my Seabourn cruise, I was fortunate to only have one other person on my tour with Cindy. We had a marvelous 3 hours, visiting different sights and benefiting from personal guidance. I was excited to be able to share "my original photo" and the "one I ended up with", after Cindy's questions and recommendations. I knew this was a worthwhile tour when my millennial son told me one of my shots was spectacular! We saw eagles, forest vegetation, totem poles and breathtaking water-mountain views. It was a wonderful morning. We were treated to an exceptional tour out of pains found Raptors and also bears in the first half an hour guide Dave was exceptionally knowledgeable and Annie pointing out the wildlife and photographic opportunities but also coaching with camera skills and optimising the pictures we were taking ...

My wife and I booked the 4-hour private Chilkat Photography Tour. Our guide, David, is an experienced photographer with a cyclopedic knowledge of the area. He took us to several of the scenic locations around Haines and was solicitous to answer any question we might have, whether about photo technique or the subject of the shot. While I had my own gear, I was grateful he brought a sturdy tripod that I used for a particular long shot. My only regret is that I did not have a longer lens—200 mm is just not enough reach for some of the wildlife shots I wanted to get. I am quite happy with several of the landscape images, though. My mom and I did the photography tour with Paul and he was great. My mom and I did the photography tour with Paul and he was great. We only had 6 people in our tour so we all had plenty of opportunities to ask questions and troubleshoot with Paul. He took us to some great locations and it was wonderful to be able to learn from experience as opposed to just sitting in a classroom. I feel like my photography improved a lot just from the few hours in this class. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in photography.
