You can pick the level of hiking you are capable of and the guide will custom adjust your experience. The hike we chose was challenging and absolutely beautiful. There is no way we would have found the path we took on our own. The entire trip there was filled with the guide’s expertise on the history of the area, the science behind the rock and lake formations, and facts about the layout of the land, indigenous peoples, and local flora. Our guide was James (Jamie) Mcsherry and he was first class. He lives in the area and brought his love of the land and hiking to every second of the tour. Thank you for showing us a great time!We took a private all day tour of the area around Mt. Rushmore including a jeep tour of Custer State Park. We took a private all day tour of the area around Mt. Rushmore including a jeep tour of Custer State Park. Our Guide, Tim took us on a hike in the park for about 3 miles, including the Cathedral Spires Trail. Viewed the unfinished Crazy Horse monument, drove through beautiful sections of the Black Hills and were treated to lunch at a nice local restaurant in Custer. After lunch we took the jeep tour of the park through the bison habitat, prairie dog meadows and some off-roading for spectacular views. Our Jeep driver, Dave, was very good at getting us to the wildlife, and very knowledgeable. Tim then finished the tour with a drive through the three Black Hills tunnels that open up with direct views of Mt. Rushmore. He then recommended some side trips for the rest of our stay in the Black Hills. Probably would have missed the Badlands if not for his coaxing. A great tour with great guides. Tim was able to "customize" on the fly, due to a traffic mishap (overturned trailer blocking the road for about 25 minutes). We would do it again!
