This is an incredible opportunity to take a relatively easy hike down the Old Pali Road and learn about the Native and introduced Hawaiian medicinal plants found in this splendid location. I was born and raised here on Oahu and have studied the plants and culture pretty much all my life. I learned Hawaiian Medicine at the Unversity of Hawaii from Kumu Levon Ohai and will be happily sharing his knowledge and wisdom with you.
We will start off at the scenic Nu'uanu Pali lookout and make our way down towards Kaneohe, along the way I will introduce you to Hawaiian medicinal plants and tell you some of the ways the Hawaiians and other cultures used them to further their health and well being. The hike will take about 3 hours with plenty of stops to meet the plants, take pictures and water breaks etc. I am willing to extend the duration/distance depending on time frames and interested parties.
Be prepared for some fantastic views and for some amazing ethnobotany.
There is a chance of light rain-showers, so bring proper attire, also there are sometimes strong winds at the lookout, but they subside as you head down the road. This is not a strenuous hike, however closed toed shoes are recommended because it is a downhill hike for the first half and the path is narrow and a bit muddy in some areas. I also recommend that you bring water and if you tend to get hungry, some small snacks.
To keep these beautiful plants alive for generations to come and for the community members that use them today, we will not be harvesting, though I may occasionally point out a plant or two that you might taste.
This is a private tour and I am happy to pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the location.
