Private Full-Day Trip to Otavalo and Its Surroundings from Quito

You will be picked up from your hotel in Quito before heading towards Imbabura known as "The Province of the Lakes". The highway offers a lovely view passing through Calderón and Guayllabamba valleys.

There will be a short stop here to get to know more about the local culture. Passing through Cayambe you can see the amazing snow-capped volcano (5,790m.), the world's highest point crossed by the Equator Line. This small town is also famous for its salt biscuits with "leaf cheese" and "manjar".

You can make a stop here to try this delicacy, before continuing to the Imbabura province, named after the Imbabura Volcano. Here you we  head to the largest lake in Ecuador, the San Pablo. Afterwards you will enter Otavalo City that holds an Indian Market every day, the biggest are on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This market is an ancient tradition and cultural exchange site among the Otavalo community. Furthermore, you will visit the peaceful Cotacachi Village, famous for its leather, and meet the local craftsmen.

Finally, after a visit to the charming Cuicocha Crater Lake you will head back to Quito in the late afternoon.

Without a doubt one of the best day tours from Quito which provided some great travel experiences and memories!

Our group of four were picked up promptly at 9am from the hotel in Quito and warmly welcomed by guide Ivon for a private day tour. We felt genuinely welcomed and Ivon created such a friendly atmosphere that made for a fantastic start!

We truly enjoyed visiting Cayambe (The Quitsato Sundial/ La Mitad Del Mundo), exploring the Otavalo market (Don't be hesitant to bargain), eating lunch with our guide at an authentic Ecuadorian restaurant, visiting a local food market (where our group purchased delicious local fruits and veggies) and hiking to Pechuge Falls. The scenery was beautiful and we loved seeing the local communities of Ecuador. This day tour was fantastic and we loved the itinerary flexibility to visit some more local locations…for that Ivon deserves special thanks! Highly recommend this great day trip!

Our trip to the Otavalo indigenous market was terrific. Our guide, who was right on time was very polite and extremely knowledgeable, took us to several places. We visited Cayambe on the way to Otavalo, spent some time in the Otavalo market, visited the beautiful waterfall in Peguche, and also went to the 'leather city' Cotacachi. He drove well and shared so much knowledge with us. Raul did a marvelous job. I would recommend this tour to anyone if you are in Quito. Don't miss the Otavalo area in the Imbaburra province, you will miss a lot.

Great tour, expert guide

What a great day!!! Cristian picked us up promptly at 9:00 and off we went our our day trip to Otavalo. On our way there, we made a stop at a restaurant that serves yummy breakfast treats called Bizcochos! Wow!!! They were delicious and he took us towards the backof the restaurant and were able to see how they were made. From there we went to Otavalo and made our way through the markets, So much fun. After shopping, Cristian suggested a great place for lunch and then shopping in the leather markets. It was a great day from beginning to end and enjoyed our time with Cristian. He was professional and knowledgable about the area. Fun, fun day!!!

Excellent trip. Good guide. Well worth doing. Thanks

Aside from the already established spots in our itinerary, Fernando, our guide, took into consideration our personal needs such as my wife's motion sickness and my need to take that Instagram worthy picture. Fernando was also quick to think of alternative routes while still visiting each stop in our itinerary keeping in mind that this is a holiday weekend in Ecuador. Recommended!

Our guide,Fernando was great. He is very friendly and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the day . We appreciate his flexibility to make our tour memorable for us.

We thoroughly enjoyed the day with our guide Mauro. He is a wealth of knowledge of all things Ecuadorean and gave us options of where we could go, how to barter and what to do/not do at the market. Unfortunately we only had 40 minutes after lunch to shop at Cotacachi. Would gladly have gone hungry.

This was our first trip to Quito and we only had two full days before heading to the Galapagos Islands. This was a great tour and Fernando, our guide, was wonderful. His english was great and he was very helpful all along the way. He adjusted the tour to fit our requests we added Mitad Del Mundo - Middle of the World at the Equator and was with us every step of the way, even after a cross-country bike race caused traffic and delayed things 1 1/2 hours. He translated for us and made bargaining easier! I would recommend this tour for anyone wanting a day trip to see many interesting cultural and beautiful sites. He also suggested places in Quito and told us what to expect at the airport when going to the Galapagos Islands.

We loved our tour guide, Diego we learned much about the culture of Ecuador. He is extremely knowledgeable and was sensitive to our needs. He even researched vegetarian restaurants with us and made sure that we had the best food. He let us take our time shopping in the Otavalo market. He was always sensitive to our needs and happiness. He is AWESOME!!!
