The architecture of this gorgeous city was built using the great wealth generated from the silver mines during the 17th and 18th centuries; during this period, Guanajuato was the source for 1/3 of the world’s silver. You will also discover the labyrinth of tunnels beneath the city as well as the Haciendas and Mines outside of the City Center.

Stop At: Museo Mina Valenciana 1791, Privada Cerro del Erizo, Valenciana, Guanajuato 36240 Mexico

The La Valenciana Mine complex is 7 km to the north of Guanajuato, atop one of the numerous hills that surround the city.

Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Museo Ex-Hacienda San Gabriel de Barrera, Carr. Guanajuato-Marfil Km. 2.5, Guanajuato Mexico

Built at the top of the seventeenth century, this was the grand hacienda of Captain archangel Delaware Barrera, whose family was descended from the primary Conde de Rul of the noted La Valenciana mine.

Stop At: Presa de la Olla, Calzada Presa de La Olla s/n Between Paseo de la Presa and Conde de Valenciana, neighborhood of de la Presa, Guanajuato 36090 Mexico

(Olla Dam) was erected in the mid 18th century to provide the city with fresh water.

We had a great tour with Roberto! He was very knowledgeable of Mexico history as well as Guanajuato’s history. We saw a great deal-mines, tunnels and subterranean roads. Driving around the city and seeing places we wouldn’t have gotten to by walking was a real plus.

We struggled to find guided tours in English, and found this one in TripAdvisor, at first sight it may look a bit expensive but you get 5 star service all the time, Roberto our tour guides have a really good English and lots lots of history knowledge, this was the best option worth the price
