Karen Weik was our private tour guide. She tailored the trip to meet our needs & did an excellent job. Karen was full of information. We saw much more than if we had driven to the Badlands on our own! We also made a stop at Wall Drug & the Minuteman Missile Museum.

We spent 2 days with our wonderful guide Mark. He is the one of the most loveliest people I have every met. We went on several hikes and he showed us his favorite local spots, traveled to Spearfish canyon, Deadwood, panned for Gold (which my 11 year old son LOVED) and made it to the Badlands. His local knowledge and ability to pack a lot into a weekend was much appreciated. And kuddos to the gal who owns the company, she must treat her employees well, in an environment where no one can find staff she simply found the BEST! Thanks Mark for a wonderful opportunity to get to know you and the beautiful South Dakota!I booked a two day tour to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday and this tour company and our guide, Jaime, did not disappoint!! I booked a two day tour to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday and this tour company and our guide, Jaime, did not disappoint!! We were staying at Under the Canvas and booked the tours through them. At first, I was a little annoyed with Under the Canvas because they provided little to no guidance on which tour to take. Fortunately, they did provide the contact information for Black Hills and I spoke with Carrie (highly recommend anyone to call the outfitters directly). Carrie was amazing and recommended that we do Mt Rushmore and Flume Hike for Day 1 and the Badlands hike for Day 2, instead of biking for Day 2. Boy, are we glad we listened to her!! On Day 1, we changed up the tour a bit because we woke up early and went to Mount Rushmore (highly, highly recommend - no crowds!). Fortunately, we had Jaime - Mr. Awesome Tour Guide - who just rolled with the changes. Instead of spending time in Mount Rushmore (which we already saw), we had the opportunity to really enjoy the Black Hills. Jaime took us to Custard State Park (where we saw herds of buffalo, pronghorns, etc) drove the Needles Highway, and hiked the Flume Trail. Jaime is such a great guide that he even kept us laughing during a thunderstorm on the trail! Day 2 at the Badlands was my favorite! About a 90 minute drive from Keystone, but totally worth it! The Badlands provides such a different experience than the Black Hills, so you'll get a better perspective of what that area of South Dakota offers. We were able to hike in the Badlands and Jaime showed us all the cool places to see different geography in the Badlands. There are many hikes depending on your physical ability. He planned the day very well, because after an awesome lunch of Indian Tacos in Wall, we were able to enjoy Wall Drug Store which was a treat! (Make sure he buys your ice cream!!) This tour truly exceeded our expectations and we were amazed how much we saw in just two days! Highly, highly recommend this tour company and definitely ask for Jaime, especially of you want to hike the Badlands.Mark was very knowledgeable and friendly, and customized the day to our preferences. Mark was very knowledgeable and friendly, and customized the day to our preferences. We saw incredible scenery and hiked some breathtaking trails (i.e., they were beautiful as well as tiring). Spent time at several different places in the Badlands, which I recommend, as there’s a lot of variation in topography and scenery. Stopped in Wall for lunch and had some great burgers. Saw bison, big-horn sheep, prairie dogs, mule deer, and (happily) no snakes. More time in the car than I expected, but the Badlands are bigger and more diverse than I realized. A little pricey but worth it!My wife and I really enjoyed our Badlands tour last week! Our guide Mark did an excellent job sharing his knowledge of the area and his own personal experiences. My husband booked a private tour of the Badlands for my 50th Birthday. Carrie was our tour guide and it was by far the best tour we have been on. She was extremely knowledgable on the entire area. We had just moved to the area and it was awesome to learn so much about our new home. It was freezing the day we took the tour, but she made it so much fun despite not being able to get out of the truck too often. After doing tour after tour, she still loved seeing all the animals and got so excited about them (I loved that). I feel that she went above and beyond to make our tour something very memorable. We will definitely be booking other tours and will use Black Hills Adventure Tours for company that comes to visit as well.
