Overview

Walk around the main square where you will admire the beauty of the Santo Domingo temple that was part of a convent, now transformed into one of the best museums of colonial and pre-Colombian art, and where there are valuable objects from Monte Alban archeological site; continue along the tourist walkway, (pedestrian street) admiring its green quarry buildings, you will find the Cathedral, built by the Dominican monks in the 16th century, you will see the outside of the Macedonio Alcalá Theater, an architectural jewel of the City of Oaxaca, later you will go to the chocolate mills to talk and learn about the ingredients for the preparation of this exquisite drink.

Before finishing your tour, you will visit also the incredible market, one of the most typical in the region, where daily hundreds of people get together to offer their particular products, a tradition that goes back to the pre-Hispanic times.

Jewel of Colonial architecture built in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, is the most splendid of Oaxaca’s churches, with a finely carved baroque facade and nearly every square centimeter inside decorated in 3D relief with intricate gilt designs swirling around a profusion of painted figures.

Stop At: Teatro Macedonio de Alcala, Independencia at Armenta y Lopez, Oaxaca Mexico

The Macedonio Alcalá Theater is one of the emblematic venues in Oaxaca and one of the most important theaters in the country, being a bulwark of culture since September 5, 1909, when it was inaugurated.

Stop At: Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, Avenida de La Independencia 700 Colonia Centro, Oaxaca 68000 Mexico

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Antequera, Oaxaca.
Its construction began circa 1535 and it was consecrated on 12 July 1733. It is dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption.

You will go to the chocolate mills to talk and learn about the ingredients for the preparation of this exquisite drink and before you will visit the market, inside you can find all kinds of typical Oaxacan products such as grasshoppers, mole, cheese, local flavor beverages, and much more. Of course, there are also many crafts with the famous alebrijes, textiles or leather products.
