Nuremberg Old Town and Nazi Rally Grounds Walking Tour

On this 4-hour tour an expert English-speaking guide will take you to see Nuremberg’s Imperial Castle, where German Emperors ruled. See Gothic churches with awe-inspiring works by the most talented German artists in history, and the area where colorful markets have been held for nearly 700 years.

Take a break for lunch in the marketplace before boarding the bus for the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds. The largest Third Reich buildings left in the world still silently testify to the megalomania of a madman.

You'll see where stormtroopers paraded, and where Adolf Hitler personally inspected columns of SS men and performed pseudo-religious cult rituals before the saluting masses.

Learn how Nuremberg deals with this dark part of its past today. After the war, at the Nuremberg trials, many of these same men would finally face justice and the gallows before the eyes of the world.

The tour ends in front of the Third Reich Documentation Center Museum, which you might like to visit (entrance fee not included).

Pretty ordinary
The guide was late. Too many people in tour. Then the second half where we went to the nazi rally area we went through a small section of it pretty fast then were left to ourselves to go to the documentation centre.

4 hours may seem like a lot of time but it flies by, the guide, Jason was friendly, informative and answered any questions the group had. Highly recommend the activity

Innecesario

If you do one tour ...
This is an excellent overview of Nuremberg's long-gone past and recent past. It is a good way to get a feel for the specialness of Nuremberg. Our guide Achim was exceptionally knowledgeable about history . He managed a larger than normal group of people ( about 20) with aplumb.

The tour in Old Town was interesting but it doesn’t take you inside any buildings. You can walk around town and see everything yourself without a tour. However, the real interesting part was leaving Old Town and taking the bus to the Rally grounds. I was a bit disappointed not to try the Documentation building but you can’t do it all.

good tour with knowledgeable tour guide
Generally good experience. The tour covers both the historical ancient town of Nuremberg and relics of Nazi party big rally ground. Our guide Chris is also quite familiar with the city and quite knowledgeable as well. This tour is a good choice for those not having enough time but just wanting to have a quick view of the city. For those with deep interest in history, more time and exploration are needed for sure.

One of the very best walking tours
The tour was divided into two parts, with a short lunch in between. Jason the guide took us round the old town and was very informative in explaining the landmarks and showing us old photos of what they used to look like, especially after WWII. After lunch, Jason took us by bus to the former Nazi parade grounds and the documentation centre, which brought much of it to life. We were all brought back to the old town by tram. Jason was an excellent guide who explained everything clearly and who took time to answer our many questions.
