We had a fabulous guide, Cheryl. She made the walk so interesting by weaving the social and material historical context with the architectural decisions at various points in NO’s history including the Creole, British, Spanish and French waves of influence. She went the extra mile sharing diagrams of the inside of structures. Cheryl also shared untold story of Micaela Leonarda Antonia Almonester y Rojas, known to history as the Baroness Pontalba, who developed Jackson Square’s buildings. The Baroness was a woman way ahead of her time and I had never heard about her. A++ for our guide. We loved this tour! We loved this tour! Our guide was very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the architecture of the neighborhood. It was also great to know that he was local to the area and clearly had so much passion for the place that he had researched. We were lucky and the group was quite small--this allowed us to have a much more intimate experience, which was wonderful as well. If you are interested in history and architectural history in particular, then this is a great option to learn more about this historic part of New Orleans. I can't wait to go on the other tours they offer the next time I visit!Rob was a great guide ... not only was he knowledgeable about the history of the city and its architecture, but he wove the two together to create a unique perspective of how the city of New Orleans came to be.
