Ateshgah is a fascinating historical site. It was a Zoroastrian temple and rest stop in the Caucasus, on the historic silk road, especially for Indian travellers. Indian motifs can be seen on some of the structures. It is located on a gas field and the natural gas flames add to its intrigue. Yanar Dag is, literally, a hill on fire. There are natural gas flames all over the hill. A unique natural phenomenon. Not to be missed.
This tour is an absolute waste of money and it lasts 1hr 30 minutes maximum. Save you money and get a taxi driver to take you there and wait for you. This is the first time that i have ever had anything negative to say about tours on Viator.

A 4hr tour that lasted barely 2.75hr. This tour is overpriced.

Well worth seeing if only for 5 minutes or so. After all where else can you see the sort of natural phenomenon that may have been instrumental in the origin of Zoroastrianism?

The guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable and really keen to showcase the best of Azerbaijan. The temple complex was set out in a way that demonstrated aspects of Zoroastrianism and the fire mountain was incredible for its uniqueness. The driver was good and also highlighted points of interest (e.g. the car rally and celebrations for VE Day).Very quick and imformative trip to 2 interesting places. Yanar Dag - way worth of visit!!!
