It was a cold winter day and yet the perfect weather for this adventure. I’m not an experienced hiker, but my tour guide, Shawn Morrissey, has years of wilderness experience and instructed the group thought various different terrain from rocky, icy, steep and wet trails. We visited numerous Shaman shrines and Buddhist temples. Each one has a unique history. Shawn is a wealth of knowledge and an awesome storyteller. You’ll encounter breathtaking views of the city, forgotten burial grounds, mountain gods and spirts projected in the landscapes, and so much more! The after hike dinner was also fantastic! You can taste the love from the locals in the recipes that have been handed down from previous generations. I recommend everyone visiting South Korea to take a break from the city and venture into nature. -CARGOJaneFriendly and knowledgeable tour guide combined with beautiful autumn colors...The hike itself isn't too demanding but a rather enjoyable workout which concluded with a breathtaking sunset view, accompanied with traditional Korean rice wine.

Shawn was a fantastic and experienced mountain guide, who clearly cared for the hikers in the group. We circled a portion of the mountains north of Seoul (part of Bukhansan park) - specifically around the Yongchul-bong (“Dragon Ascending Peak”). Note: This is not a peak climb, just up to one of the ridges to get beautiful views of Uisang-bong and Wonhyo-bong... I would describe the hike difficulty as "moderate". This hike was done at a light pace, with plenty of time to take photos along the way, and took our group about 6 hours. There is plenty of value in this hike as you will receive many folk stories and knowledge about the shaman and mountain spirits they venerate. We also visited two beautiful Buddhist temples; Guknyeong-sa (“Kingdom Prosperity Temple”) and Deokam-sa (“Virtuous Rock temple”). Highly recommend anyone to venture on this hike... learn some ancient history, folklore, have a chance to experience a beautiful part of nature that's not too far from Seoul! Did I mention the delicious food (included) after the hike... a tradition - all organic and simply delicious!! Do yourself a favour and learn some of the culture that makes Korea great - get that fresh air and wonderful food - you won't regret it!Seoul is a wonderful city but the pace and the noise can be a bit exhausting. Seoul is a wonderful city but the pace and the noise can be a bit exhausting. I can't think of a better way to unwind from the urban induced stress than by taking a hike through the northern mountains. And I can't think of a better guide to lead that hike than Shawn. He is an excellent story teller and incredibly knowledgeable about all things pertaining to the Korean mountains. Tales of fighting monks, enlightenment, wars, and mythical beasts are all on the menu as you stroll through the panorama of rocky peaks. I think this tour would be the highlight of anyone's visit to Seoul.
