Stop At: Mount Etna, 95030 Catania, Sicily Italy
The excursion includes an easy walk to the impressive “Monte Fontana” and a visit of the famous valley “Valle del Bove”. Wandering through old and new lava flows, walking on extinct craters and visiting a real lava cave equipped with helmets and flashlights, where ice was produced centuries ago, you will enjoy an unforgettable experience.
Our English-speaking guide will show you the great variety of flora and fauna: plants and animals which populate our active volcano. While walking through ancient forests you will learn a lot about the vegetation and the wildlife of Mount Etna. Our last stop of the half-day tour will be around the cold lava streams of Piano Provenzana, which has been destroyed during the last big eruption of 2002.

Stop At: Gola dell'Alcantara, via Nazionale Ss 185, 98030, Motta Camastra, Sicily Italy
Visit the famous Alcantara Gorges, which were formed millions of years ago on the north side of the volcano. Between the cold lava flows runs a small mountain river. Here you can walk barefoot in the crystal clear and ice cold water of the canyon or (during summer) have a refreshing swim.
On the way to the canyon we will pass by the idyllic Sicilian mountain village Castiglione di Sicilia and we will see Motta Camastra from the distance, which is situated on a slope. At the end of the tour we will drive you back to your accommodation.

There was a lot of pauses and time waiting. Probably ok for families, but if you want to explore Etna, we recommend to get a private guide.

Valentino was our guide on this unforgettable excursion to Mt Etna. He was extremely knowledgeable about every detail of the Vulcan; the history, the flora and the fauna of the mountain. Since the weather was looking sketchy the itinerary was reversed to do the hiking first and then the off-road portion and visit to the grotto. It was a good thing, since it started hailing while we were taking a lunch break. As we sat in the Baita on the mountain we could see the face of the mountain change from black vulcanic Rock to bright white snow and hail. It was a beautifully majestic sight to behold. Overall this excursion was perfect in every way. We could not have asked for a better trip or a better guide. Thank you Valentino and Go-Etna for an unforgettable time.
