Our guide was Theo, who messaged us the day before re-confirming the pick-up time and was punctually waiting for us at 7.30am. It was a pleasant drive up to Meteora (~4.5 hours) and Theo kept us very entertained - he was great to chat to, gave us a lot of insight into the Greek life which you wouldn’t normally be privy to. The time passed quickly and he was very nice to stop and show us the good photo spots. We went to the small monastery first because it was closing at 1pm, followed by the great Meteora. We had the option of going to a third one but we felt we’d covered off the first 2 well enough and got a good enough view of the third one from the outside! We never felt rushed and it was super relaxing and easy going for us. We stopped by Kalambaka for lunch and found an amazing place for lunch - seemed popular with the locals! The drive back was a bit longer than anticipated due to some unforeseen road closures (floods) but we got some good rest on the way back so it wasn’t tiring at all. It’s a long day for sure, but very much worth it and totally feasible for a day trip! Would recommend this option and this tour company! An absolutely wonderful guide- personable, energetic, flexible, and smart. The tour was delightful, and the sights were amazing. Wear good walking shoes and be ready to climb for a couple of the monasteries. It is a must see in Greece, and, given the comfortable car and our guide’s companionship, not a trial to get to. Wonderful suggestion for lunch, as well, with a beautiful view. Thank you!Amazing! Go! Meteora is unique and sacred. Amazing! Go! Meteora is unique and sacred. Meteoros in Greek meaning floating — and these six monasteries carved high in the rock monoliths feel that way. The views are stupendous and each monastery contains a jewel of a church. I had read how traveling by train connections could be problematic and time consuming. So I decided to go with this private tour and I am so glad I did. We left at 7 and arrived back into Athens at 7. Theofolis picked me up in front of my Airbnb, was on time and geared the tour to my needs—always considering needed breaks. He couldn’t be nicer! Theofolis is one of the owners of this tour company, so he really cares. Highly recommended!Dimitri is awesome. Three words : Mythical, Magical and Mesmerizing. We engaged a one-day private tour with Travelguru through Viator because the train journey is quite troublesome as I was told. The journey was comfortable albeit a little far, four and a half hours one way to be exact. Our driver Mr Dimitri is such a nice guy and we had very good conversation along the way so the whole journey was quite relaxing. Made a number of short stops for toilet visits and to stretch our legs. Visited two monasteries and took tonnes of pictures of the others. Just marveled at the sight of such beautiful buildings and their surroundings. A place surely will not let any visitor down and the effort of making this trip is worth it and a strong recommendation for anyone thinking of going. A superb site worthy of being selected by UNESCO. Should be on every visitor"s bucket list. 10 out of 10.
