Masca from above
Overview
Then, just like magic, open countryside appears where we are given the most spectacular panoramic view the island of Tenerife has to offer. We then look down on the Masca gorge and the surrounding volcanic landscape. On a clear day, the finale is a fabulous view of Mount Teide looming in the distance across the Santiago valley and the lava fields high above. Our hike then continues on easy footpaths through Pine forest and descends majestically into a valley which is reminiscent of the English countryside.
This is a moderate hike, 12 km with 375m ascent/descent over undulating ground. Maximum altitude 1100m taking approx. 5 hours.

Andy the guide clearly knows every square inch of Tenerife like the back of his hand.

Really enjoyable walk in the Teno Massif and Enchanted Forest. Andy is good guide, giving interesting information on the landscape and history of the island. I suspect he could probably do this walk blindfolded, he knows all the tracks and best places to see the breath taking scenery. I was part of a small group, sevenperfumes2016 who has also reviewed and a very fit retired gentleman, who were all good company. Andy thankfully picked me up from San Blas which was a bit of a drive from the area we hiked in. The 5 hour/7mile walk took in a number of different terrains, from dry trails to forests not to dissimilar to UK walks, then opened up to beautiful views of the Masca village/valley/gorge. The walk is suitable for anyone who has even limited hiking experience in my opinion (decent footwear essential), plenty of water needed as the temperature was high. I will definitely be walking with Andy when visiting the island again. Our walk with Andy was amazing, we enjoyed it very much! Thank you, Andy! The scenery was just lovely: Up and down the hills around Masca with lovely views as well as walking through a forest we had not expected to exist. Andy also offered deep knowledge about the area and Tenerife in general, very interesting and informative. All in all, we would very much recommend this walk!
