Make Authentic Espadrilles in Seville
Overview
Awarded in 2019 and 2020 as TOP10 Worldwide Experiences. During this very unique workshop all guests will stitch their own Spanish Espadrilles, which they will keep as the most special souvenir of their trip. Our guests become artisans for 90 minutes.
All guests will meet at a real espadrilles workshop, in the emblematic Calle Sierpes, surrounded by a whole universe of tradition and history. Two artisans will lead the workshop, and will show and assist on not only how to make the espadrilles, but also how to wear them in different traditional ways according to Spanish culture.
It is local, unique, special, fun and something that only an insider could get.
Be prepared to be amazed, captivated and surprised by the owners, they are fun, engaging and they know all that is to know about espadrilles.

During this Espadrilles Experience you will stitch your own traditional espadrille, which you will keep afterwards as the most amazing souvenir. First, we will introduce you to the story of espadrilles and the materials needed for their construction. You will learn about this beautiful tradition, and how this shoe design passed from being built for humble people, to be one of the most trendy in fashion nowadays.
Then every guest will choose the size of the base, the color of the laces and the preferred style. Once ready, we will stitch our own traditional espadrilles, and then learn the different ways to lace them up. There will be more than 100K different combinations!
It will be fun, not difficult and you will have constructed your own pair of traditional "alpargatas" by the end of it. Finally, each guest will leave with its own creation and with a really cool story to tell to friends, something that it is hardly available to the visitors, not even locals.

This was a fantastic experience all around. I loved getting to know and learn a little more of the culture of Spain and how this part came to be. The making of the shoe had a few snags but went smoothly with a little help. Making the shoe wasn't difficult for me but I come from a DIY background.

My boyfriend is so obsessed with the quality that he extra drives to barcelona to get a pair each year. They have super fancy colors like navy, sand and camel brown as you can see in the pictures. Luis is super cool and really does everything for his customers. I never have experienced such a Great Service in any other shop around the world. You can feel the heart and passion he and his team put into the business and I clearly can differentiate a family business like Luis‘s from all the other cash grabbing franchises. We love to support local businesses and people and I can highly recommend the shoes. And there is even more. Handmade barcelona is not only a shoe - it is an experience. They offer Workshop for groups, individuals or families where you can create and make your own shoes. Super cool.
