What to expect
Head inside the Swiss Museum of Transport with your entrance ticket and explore at leisure. The museum charts the development of rail, air, space, road and water travel with hands-on exhibits, simulators and multimedia displays. Your ticket gives you access to its key exhibition halls and areas, filled with more than 3, 000 displays, making for a fun day out for adults and kids.
Visit the Aviation Hall to view historic aircraft and flying machines. The museum takes its exhibits to new heights with flight simulators that give you the rush of operating an airplane, helicopter, or hang glider.
When it's time to get grounded, walk around the Rail Transport Hall to see steam locomotives and model railways, and try your hand at negotiating tunnels, signals and bridges in train simulators.
Zoom over to the Road Transport Hall for the history of automobiles and to view 20 of the world’s most iconic cars. You can even turn into a crash-test dummy to experience a bruise-free collision in one interactive exhibit.
Other attractions include the Navigation Hall with its fascinating seagoing displays; the i-factory covering information technology; and the Swissarena where you can walk across a one-of-a-kind aerial photo of Switzerland that takes up an entire room.
Most people find two–three hours in the museum is sufficient, but your ticket lets you explore for as long as you like. For a supplement you can also visit the museum’s domed planetarium to witness its dazzling astronomical shows, and its Filmtheater to watch spectacular 3D and high-definition movies.

You need much more signage and a much better floor plan of each area, explaining what is in each section. The plan is terrible as it tells you nothing. You also need to put names on each building to tell people what is inside each one. Best of all would be a one way trail around the site, with arrows. You also need to explain better on the website which activities are included in the price and which are not. It is very confusing and not clear at all, especially between the museum ticket and day pass. It also needs to be pointed out that this is a very technical museum which explains things in very great depth using technical jargon. There are also far too many models and sadly not many life size original planes, trains or ships. The train section is a bit better as it has no models and not too much technical stuff! The other group best served is children as there are lots of interactive things for them to do. BUT if you are not a child or a technical person you will really not enjoy this museum!! You have been warned. We did a huge mistake - did not study beforehand about the museum and planned only 1 hour for visit at the end of the day. We did a huge mistake - did not study beforehand about the museum and planned only 1 hour for visit at the end of the day. So when came there the Museum representatives told us that we can just visit the inside yard cause there are 3 buildings with the content for which at least half of the day needed or even more. But even our visit to the inside yard shown us that the Museum is sooo cool, exciting and interesting for everybody - as for children, as for adults. Transport (all types) and logistics looks like so exciting huge field of activity. The Museum is constructed very interactively with huge portion of interesting and important information even if you are not connected to transport or logistics anyhow. For sure must visit. We are very upset that missed many interesting things there due to our wrong planning. It was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But you do need about at least 3-4 hours (if not more) to explore the museum. There was also a wall of cars where you could select a car on a tablet and the machine would bring it down to show you. Very informative and perfect for children of all ages.A very nice and didactic place for all -- to learn more about transportation in Switzerland : train, car, planes, etc. Especially give a try to the flying simulator : just great. The MediaWorld is also nice -- it creates some good digital memories. Only pitfall is that the whole activity is sponsored by brands ... meaning that you are exposed to them during the whole visit.A tremendous museum of transportation and science bout Switzerland. A tremendous museum of transportation and science bout Switzerland. I spent my most time in the aviation and railway portions. The aviation museum is fascinating and fun - great coverage of the history of air travel in the last century, with the best parts on 1950's and 1960's travel. Railway section also very good, with an emphasis on locomotives. A good days visit. We could have spent all day here, with so much to see and do, and lots of fun activities to enjoy. A wonderful outing and I would expect, heaven for children.
