I highly recommend taking this tour if you want to truly grasp the reality of Bucharest, as there is no better way to understand the city than by exploring its past. I don't think it's possible to truly begin to understand modern Bucharest without understanding its history. I have an interest in history and politics, but I'm particularly interested in how authoritarianism comes about. Eastern Europe as a whole has lots of stories to tell, but on this tour, my guide Cristina was able to tell me the story of Bucharest and Romania. She explained the relevant history of the city in a very engaging manner over a few hours, bringing me to many important landmarks, where we were able to talk about different aspects of the effects of communism on the country. Cristina has a wealth of knowledge about the history of Bucharest, and I cannot recommend this tour enough to anybody visiting the city. She set the scene from the start, taking us through the history of Bucharest pre and post communism. She is so knowledgeable yet totally non judgemental . We were left to draw our own conclusions based on the facts which was extremely thought provoking. She piqued our interest in discovering more about this fascinating country! I cannot recommend this tour enough as it really brought the city to life.
