Overview

Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world, at over 3, 800 meters above sea level! Take a trip from the port of Puno and navigate these shimmering waters to the legendary Floating Islands of the Uros people, constructed entirely out of the buoyant totora reed, a bulrush wetland plant which grows naturally in the lake. Discover a unique community and way of life, that was until recently unknown to the outside world.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Uros, Peru

Climb aboard the boat and begin your voyage to the distant Floating Islands - a 25-minute journey, in which you can absorb the tranquillity and stillness of the magnificent Lake Titicaca, only disrupted by the passing of another vessel.

As you approach your destination, take note of the large, grass-like reeds growing by the wayside, which are famously used in the construction of the islands you’re about to visit. Practice your Quechua greetings with your guide, and get ready to meet the Uros people, who are eagerly waiting to receive you.

On arrival, you’ll be helped down onto dry land, and shown around one of the islands. Meet the local inhabitants, see the way they live, and learn from your guide just how vital the totora reed is for this community. You’ll be given the opportunity to ride on a traditional reed boat (at an additional cost), and experience this unique form of transport normally used by the island dwellers.

In this modern day and age, it is rare to find a community who have such a special relationship with their surrounding environment, and with such an ingenious way to live sustainably. Seize the chance to pay a visit to the Uros people whilst you’re in Puno, and witness this for yourself!

We did the half day tour of the floating islands as we were on transit enroute to Cusco from Bolivia. Lake Titicaca Trips and their guide was very nice. They helped us store our bags while we were doing this trip. Wish we had more time to see all three islands.

Wyspy Uros statkiem za 15 soli od osoby. W tym 3 godzinne pływanie po jeziorze Titicaca, wizyta na wyspie, tzw. "atrakcje" i emocje. Organizacja dobra, 10 minutowe spóźnienie można wybaczyć - wszak to Ameryka Południowa.

The natives living on the floating islands use a number of different boats (some of them are modern with gas engines) to get around and to do the daily chores, but the big reed boats (made in town by experts that have the tools to build such large boats) shown in the picture are not made by the n...

We learnt a lot about the culture and traditions of the people living on these islands. Although it is a bit touristy, it is well worth...
