Our driver Petra was fantastic, the whole experience was fun, informative and educational. It was our anniversary and she made it special. The trip was shared with a couple from a nearby hotel who were great company too. We were collected from our hotel at 8am and went on to collect the other couple. The jeep was comfy with air conditioning and water supplied in the back. Our guide chatted about the area as we made our way to Knossos. We started at the Palace, but whilst early it was busy. No guide which is a real shame as its an extra 30euros to get in per couple on top of the price of the trip. We would have preferred to pay extra and have a guide inside the Palace. So we ended up wandering about with a 7euro guidebook, a bit lost at the ruins. If I'm honest this was a real disappointment and I would have given the trip 2 stars if it weren't for Petra making up for it after. You only get about an hour in the Palace so it's quite rushed. We came out concerned about what would happen next. We were then taken up into the mountains with plenty of opportunities for photographs of the truly magnificent views. Petra showed us local herbs and information of the area. Including the damn and sheep! We were taken to a small village with a huge tree around 2,500 years old! You really have to see it. The trips highlight ended with lunch at the most wonderful taverna high in the mountains. Beautiful food and great company, the owner (name escapes me) is an entertainer. Making his own wine and Raki of which he is very proud. All his meats are Grilled on his barbecue, vegetables and herbs all handpicked and cooked by his wife. A lovely family and what Crete is really about. A magical experience that I highly recommend.
We had a fantastic day thanks to our guide Michael who ensured the smooth running of the day and was attentive to our every comfort, with attention to the smallest detail. We had a fantastic day thanks to our guide Michael who ensured the smooth running of the day and was attentive to our every comfort, with attention to the smallest detail. He was a constant source of interesting information. Knossos is a must if you are visiting Crete. Impressive ancient ruins in a beautiful setting. We were aware of the €15 entry on top of the tour price. Michael organised for us to skip the long queue. Pottery experience was fun. I would have liked more time with this, but the busy itinerary didn’t allow. We bought some beautiful pieces of pottery. Lunch in a picturesque mountain village under the shade of a mulberry tree was sublime. Authentic Cretan cuisine accompanied by ice-cold wine and water was delicious! Olive factory was informative with opportunity for tasting and shopping. I must mention that our guide went above and beyond to rectify a mistake when another guest mistakenly took my shopping. He retrieved the package and personally delivered it to our accommodation. Definitely 5 stars for Michael and the Tour!
