Do the walk with a guide because you will get so much more out of the experience. 3 hours will allow for the walk and soaking in the hot springs. Remember to take a bag for the wet suit! The employees were good and conscientious. The sulfur smell is subtle and hardly noticeable! I found it better...

Worth visiting if you have a couple of hours to kill, but for a superior geothermal experience, definitely go to Wai-O-Tapu instead. The spa was heaving with people and didn’t look inviting but the staff are very welcoming and helpful.

Only took us a few minutes to adjust to the sulpher smell. We took advantage of the co-location with the baths, ...

We did the walk on our own and found it very interesting, all the geysers and hot bubbling mud... The signs were clear and interesting. I'm glad we came across a tour group and saw we could touch the mud in one place, so we did. I'd love to go back there one day and try the hot pools.
