Go from the ancient to the modern on a relaxing tour of history in Tottori. Check out the scenic Hakuto Coast before riding to Shikano, home to castle ruins. Hakuto Shrine and Hakutosazou are written in folk history, the Chronicle of Japan. Famous for promoting great marriages, prospective couples will make 3 copies of the Hakuto personal contract promising eternal love, then each person keeps one, and the 3rd remains at the shrine. Aoyakamijichi ruins traces of a village from the Yayoi Era, a prehistoric time. Many items used for daily life in the period were found here, including the remains of an ancient structure, giving this the name of "the Yayoi Museum." The ruins of Shikano Castle are now home to cherry trees that bloom elegantly in spring. Relax as you stroll through the quiet and peaceful town of Shikano, where many historic buildings still remain.
