Seiji-san is a generous and knowledgeable host who provided us with a very enjoyable experience. I'd consider this more of a guided tour of the Izu-kogen area with some (easy) cycling thrown in, as opposed to a cycling tour per se, which is perfectly fine - Seiji-san goes out of his way to explain numerous features and history of the region and is unfailingly committed to ensuring that his guests have a great experience.
I had the pleasure of having Suzuki-san leading us to a wonderful half-a-day tour. First of all, I have to apologize as the tour was put together last-minute because of miscommunication during the confirmation process. In any case, Suzuki san, who speaks fluent English as spent a year living in Toronto, came to greet us very quickly with everything prepared. He was very attentive to our needs. Learning that i'm a huge fan of the animals, he tweaked our itinerary so we could maximize our time spent at the Izu zoo, along with helpful tips on what animals to focus on so we are most efficient with our limited time. He also made sure that we had a chance to enjoy the surrounding nature (it was the season for kouyou/red leaves) and selected a few choice spots for us to thoroughly enjoy the treasure offered by the Izu peninsula.
Our family with two teenagers thoroughly enjoyed our cycyling half day tour with Sage-san. We cycled in the hot weather but didn’t mind it as it was really interesting! We had come from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo to relax in Ito. The cycle tour took us through Sakura Park, quiet villages, rice fields, secluded temple and amazing scenery! Sage-san was most informative and we gained insights into the local area and culture. He also took videos and photos for us along the way. Many thanks to Sage-san and we would definitely recommend to all visitors to Ito.
My friends and I did the "Course A" half-day downhill bike tour. Seiji-san was a very friendly and knowledgeable guide who made the tour quite enjoyable. For a small extra fee (less than $5 per person), he drove us from the tour office (near our hotel) in Ito to the location of the beginning of the tour, Mt. Omuro (this saved us from having to take a bus). Our tour started with our group riding the chairlift to the top of Mt. Omuro and spending 45 minutes at the top while Seiji-san prepared our bikes. After that, the tour consisted of several short legs where Seiji-san would show us a map and photos of where to ride next and he would follow in his car. At each meeting spot, he would talk about the history/significance of the location and give us time to walk around a bit. He also took several videos of us riding - a fun souvenir! The biking was all downhill except for a few short stretches of slight uphill inclines. You need to be in reasonable shape for this but by no means a super sporty type. Some of the downhill riding was fairly steep, so you need to keep your brakes engaged and be careful not to go too fast. I was also impressed that Seiji-san was excellent about communicating during the planning stages. He answered every email in a timely manner and made sure we were connected on WhatsApp before I left the U.S. so that we had a means of communication once I was in Japan.
My friend and I were expecting to bike for the entire time, but the tour ended up being so much more. Seiji-san was an amazing tour guide. He drives you up to Mt. Omuro first for a chairlift to the top where you can see the coast and, if you're lucky like we were, Mt. Fuji! He has different locations mapped out for you with clear instructions as to how to get from stop to stop. You get to see the Jogasaki coast with a waterfall and suspension bridge and an amazing, ethereal shrine, Biking down the mountain is one of the highlights of the trip. It can be a bit scary because of how steep the path is, but rest assured, the scenery all around you is great. As long as you follow Seiji-san's instructions, you'll be safe. We were only going to spend one day in Izu and with this tour, we felt very satisfied that we had seen the best of the peninsula around the Ito region. Seiji-san is even willing to drive you to your hotel for a small fee after the tour is over! I can't recommend this experience enough.
My husband and i really enjoyed our cycling tour with Sage san , the route was well planed and mostly down hill while cycling . Sage san was very knowledgeable with lot of interesting information about the local areas . We had a great time on Mt Omuro and Shaboten Animal Park , my highlights was cycling from Shaboten Park to Lake Ippeki . Sage san bought us some local snacks while we had a small break along the way to Lake Ippeki . The scenery of the cycling route was breathtaking . Sage san also took a few videos while we were on the bike , he was truly very kind and thoughtful . It is my first cycling tour in japan , after this amazing trip with Sage san , i'm more confident to join other bike tour in japan in my future trip ! once again many thanks to Sage san , we had such an incredible day in Ito . would highly recommended to everyone who visit Ito .
My friends and I did the half day downhill cycling tour with Seiji as our guide. The weather was really good in December and we were able to see amazing sights around the area. The tour brought us to Mount Omuro, Jogasaki Coast, various sites in between and an onsen with a gorgeous view of the ocean at the end. The sights we encountered while cycling were breathtaking, and Seiji was able to take some videos of us while we were cycling. He was also very knowledgeable of the area and the history behind it. A lot of emphasis was placed on safety and Seiji always made sure we knew the route between each of the checkpoints before moving off. The condition of the bicycles and the helmets were in very good condition and easy to ride, the sights to be seen around the area are amazing, and the Seiji was a very friendly guide. I would definitely recommend everyone to join the tour.
Sage, who owns and runs the tour, is a kind and gentle man who speaks good English and who clearly has great knowledge and passion for the beauty and natural history of the Izu area. There are several types of tours to choose from but as groups are small likely much opportunity for customisation. Our tour combined a chairlift ride up to the top of Mt Omuro with a flat 1km around the rim of this extinct volcano. Clear views of Mt Fuji. Then downhill cycling tour to the seaside with a number of interesting nature and religious stops on the way. Then an easy hike along a river and then the sea, finished off by an authentic and traditional onsen visit. We were joined on our tour by a Japanese man who seemed to find the trip as interesting and stimulating as us... In other words not just a tour laid on for the foreign tourists. One slight downside. Bicycle on the small side for 6' Aussie and caliper brakes worked ok but not great. Slightly larger bike with disc brakes would have felt safer. A unique tour that Sage has carefully and beautifully brought together several experiences including a chairlift ride, easy hikes and easy cycling to get a great taste of the area!
Upon my last return to Ito, my home town in Izu Peninsula, I had an opportunity to join the “Downhill bicycle Tour” by Great Nature Tours with the guest, young girl from the U.S. Several places we stopped during the tour were very familiar places for locals like myself, yet haven’t been discovered by the visitors. The tour also includes some of the very popular tourist attractions as well. These are hand-crafted, well-thoughtfully organized tours by the owner and tour-guide, Mr. Sage Suemitsu. He is originally from elsewhere therefore, from different point of view, he could focus on what this area offers best that we locals took it for granted, then came up with the idea of connecting these places dot to dot by getting pleasure of downhill bicycling! His unique tours are especially great for those exploring this area without driving. And Sage is willing to accommodate whatever your situations may be, so just ask him. I strongly recommend these tours if you are totally comfortable and being aware of riding bicycle on the public road.
Sage-san is an excellent guide and his cycle tour was a great way to see the highlights of the Izu peninsula. The downhill bike ride from Mt Omaru was great fun and Sage pointed out highlights I would have otherwise missed including a beautiful garden where we stopped for coffee. Even after the trip, Sage left me with excellent recommendations and took me to a great sushi place!
We were staying in K's house Ito and happen to chance on the tour brochure. Since we have no plans, so we thought we could just sign up for the tour and see what Ito has to offer. We had Sage-san leading us for the whole tour and he is the best tour guide one could ever get. He was informative, considerate, easy to talk to and made us feel really comfortable. The highlight of the tour was actual the downhill cycling which was really scary but it was really memorable. We saw the different kind of houses Ito has, the nature and the food! Definitely a must-go tour if you are in Ito so that you can experience different things in Ito in just half a day. We hope to be back soon! :)))
When we saw the offer about Sage´s downhill cycling tour at the reception of our hostel we shortly booked it for the same day. Fortunately he had time the same day. We got picked up at our hostel in Ito by car and we were brought to Mt. Omuro. There we took the chairlift to the top to walk around the crater while Sage was preparing our bikes. After showing us the details of our downhill route we started our tour. Sage accompanied us by car. We made a lot of stops at exciting, secret and silent places such as rice fields, a hidden shrine between very old trees and a geo park. At the end of our tour Sage planned a little hiking tour along a river to the Jogasaki coast. Afterwards we could relax at a small Onsen with a beautiful view of a small port. On our way back to the hostel we made a stop at a traditional japanese sweets factory. We ate delicious fresh pudding. Altogether it was a perfect day in nature on Izu with a wonderful guide. Sage is very friendly and tells you a lot about local traditions and shows you many secret places. We will definety recommend this tour! Tank you for this amazing day.
