Overview
Rancho Xotolar is a working ranch that has been in the Morin Ruiz family for over four generations. We are located in the high plateau 18 km from the center of SMA in a rural and pristine environment untouched by modernization. Our land is situated adjoining the newly opened archaeological site of Cañada de la Virgen, a pre-Columbian construction of pyramids and other architectural structures of the central basin of the Laja river that is attributed to tolteca-chichimecas groups of central Mexico.
Here our guests can experience the true cultural life that is Mexico. You will enjoy the wide open spaces, not like a tourist, but as a member of the Morín Family. You will ride through spectacular countryside with breathtaking views and stunning landscapes guided by Thomás and Felix Morín who will share their vast knowledge and skills while keeping your safety in mind. After your ride, enjoy an authentic ranch “comida” of delicious, freshly prepared specialties along with a cold “cerveza”.

Itinerary
Rancho Xotolar is a family operated “working ranch” that has been in the Morin Ruiz family for over four generations. Our expert knowledge of horses and livestock will ensure that your visit is safe and comfortable. We are located only a short distance from San Miguel de Allende on the high plateau overlooking the city among natural surroundings and breathtaking views.
The adventure begins when we pick you up from your hotel at 9:00 am or 3:30 pm, we will drive for approximately 40 minutes near the archaeological site of Cañada de la Virgen, we will begin with a registration and the necessary protocols of the Covid-19, Later we will have an introduction to rural life, we will milking cow and learning part of the process of traditional cheese. Then we will have a class on how to ride and make sure that the instructions are clear for each of our visitors and we will start the Horseback riding for 3 hours through nature environment, with views that will steal your breath and we will finish with a traditional ranch meal and drinks, at the end we will drive approximately 40 minutes back to SMA to drop you off at your hotel.

This was such a great tour. Leo and Felix were exceptional guides and took such good care of my wife and I especially considering we are both in our 60’s and have minimal riding experiences. Even though there were some steep sections, our very competent guides and obedient horses made it very manageable. The vistas we rode through were amazing and it was such a pleasure being out in the wide open spaces in the middle of Mexico! On return to the ranch we were treated to a wonderful authentic Mexican lunch prepared by the family. A truly amazing experience!!Hall H

The experience was excellent from start to finish. The trip through the hills, canyons, trails and rivers was lots of fun. I enjoyed riding through Mexico like gauchos and cowboys. Highly recommended!

My wife Lori and I went on this excursion this morning and cannot say enough good things about the experience. Thomas picked us up from our hotel promptly at 0900 and transported us to his family’s ranch where we first got to see some things about the daily operations of the ranch like the milk...
My wife Lori and I went on this excursion this morning and cannot say enough good things about the experience. Thomas picked us up from our hotel promptly at 0900 and transported us to his family’s ranch where we first got to see some things about the daily operations of the ranch like the milking of the cows and the making of the fresh cheese. We then met his nephews Pedro and Roberto and were introduced to our horses for the morning. The ride was truly incredible. The horses are very well trained , docile and accustomed to the rugged terrain. My wife has very little riding experience and she had no problem with this experience. We rode all morning and saw the most beautiful scenery that only an experience like this can provide. Thomas, Pedro, and Roberto were never far away to make sure that everyone was was doing OK and the horses were staying on the trail. At the end of the ride, we were treated to an authentic Mexican meal made by Thomas’ sister. It was absolutely delicious and featured fresh cheese from the milk we saw being milked this morning. This was a truly authentic and memorable experience. We highly recommend this excursion and will certainly do this again on our next visit to the area.Maribel M

Awesome horse back riding followed by an authentic meal prepared by the family. Everything was amazing. The scenery was amazing. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we had a great time.
