This was a wonderful, full of learning new things experience! It started a little bumpy after the company had unfortunately forgotten to read my email regarding keeping the trip day as it is, so I waited for almost an hour and it became clear they had forgotten me. I already thought I will just get reimbursed and won’t be able to enjoy the tour at all, but the company arranged a private tour for me with an English-speaking guide - Dante - and picked me up within 30 mins. The tour with Dante was extremely informative and just all-around great! The archeological site had a wonderful interpretative museum that Dante explained to me masterfully, answering even the most detailed questions. The ride was comfortable amd safe and we even stopped at a good place for Torta Ahogada on the way back that I wished for. Dante and our driver Mario were very flexible amd helpful. I can highly recommend the tour and Dante specifically! Great service and quick thinking on the company side - thank you all!Alejandro and Dante arrived at our condo right as scheduled and a wonderful day began. Alejandro and Dante arrived at our condo right as scheduled and a wonderful day began. Dante was extremely knowledgeable and answered questions we had not only about Guachimontones but about Guadalajara in general. We loved the site and all of the information that Dante shared with us. He and Alejandro joined us for lunch, and we had a wonderful conservation on many topics. We felt like friends by the end of the tour. We loved the site visit and the company of both of these wonderful gentlemen. We felt safe in the van at all times as Alejandro drove us from place to place. It was a great day! If you have a chance to take this tour, we would recommend it.I booked this tour through the site "Get Your Guide" because GDL Estacion Turistica's site wasn't working for me to book 2 people. I booked this tour through the site "Get Your Guide" because GDL Estacion Turistica's site wasn't working for me to book 2 people. So keep that in mind if you too have trouble. The booking confirmation showed Estacio Touristica's phone number etc. Guachimontones is such an amazing and unique archeological site. It's also a great way to get out of Guadalajara and enjoy the beautiful countryside. We did another excursion out of the city before this one but most of my countryside photos are me trying to take pics of mountains from a moving car, avoiding the power lines. This site is beautiful and peaceful with mountain and lake views. If I visited it on my own I probably wouldn't have noticed several things our guide pointed out, like the spot that was aligned perfectly with the 4 directions or the still-covered pyramid you can climb. The museum has an English language film your guide will make sure they play (if you speak english which I assume you do since you're reading this :)). The rest of the museum is gorgeous and has great displays, but they're all in Spanish. So if like me you'd end up looking up a LOT of words to understand the signs, having a guide to explain things and refer back to things mentioned in the film is invaluable. There's some cool hands-on stuff in the museum: local rocks, corn or chocolate grinding stones, and potshard replicas so you can try to piece together something from the shards. I wasn't contacted when the "Get Your Guide" email led me to expect so I called GDL and someone who spoke english answered, that always makes things easier! She was super nice. We arranged where and when they'd pick us up, and they were actually a little early! Our guide was Ramón, who has extensive knowledge about the site and the other groups living in this area and all of Mexico, plus he knows a lot of the plant life we drove past or hiked past. He was super accommodating; the nearby lake was covered with beautiful mist and he stopped so we could take a quick photo before it burned off. He also picked out a great restaurant for lunch based on what we eat and what we don't eat. We plan to visit Guadalajara again and I'll definitely look to this company for other tours. The tour was very interesting and well organised. The site is small but well orgnaised and not too crowded and the restaurant was nice. Thanks a lot

Great experience. This site is well worth the drive. Museum has artifacts and educational material well displayed and there is a short movie available in English or Spanish. My guide was amazing, very knowledgeable and patient with questions. A bit of a hike up to site, take water and breaks as needed. Amazing views of surrounding area from site. Well cared for grounds with few people there on a Wednesday. I understand it gets crowded on the weekends. Great option for some outdoor activity and learning more about ancient indigenous peoples of the area.
