Stop At: Las Coloradas, Rio Lagartos Mexico
On this tour you can enjoy the nature that surrounds us in a day, we will travel to Las Coloradas a small fishing village located in the east of the state of Yucatan.
We'll get you to your hotel, we'll all go up to the minivan. It will be a journey of about 3 hours. Because our departure is very early, along the way we will give you a box lunch for you to enjoy.
Arriving in the village of Las Coloradas you will be a few steps from the sandy roads facing the most spectacular pink lake of Mexico, result of the extraction of sea salt in the region.
Las Coloradas is a simple population that lives mainly from salt extraction and fishing.The first thing to do in Las Coloradas is to walk the sandy paths and admire, while taking photographs, the unique spectacle of pink water in Yucatan.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Rio Lagartos, Rio Lagartos, Yucatan Peninsula
We will go up once again to transport and head to Rio Lagartos which is located 38 km west of Las Coloradas. When we arrive we will board a boat that will take us through a tour through the mangroves of Río Lagartos and the protected environmental reserve called Ria Lagartos that constitutes a natural area.
It will be a two-hour tour, where you will be a spectator of one of the attractions that Río Lagartos has are the flamingos that come to feed and nest the Biosphere, and that offer a beautiful spectacle when they arrive in large flocks painting the sky pink.
We will reach a mat that will give us access to see more closely the pink flamingos while feeding, just remember to be very quiet as as any bird gets scared easily. As we approach to admire them you will see some sea cockroaches that are walking around the place, some puffer fish and other species of birds.
At the end of the flamingo sighting you can head to the "Maya Bath" where you will enjoy cooling off in a mud of pink or golden waters, this due to its high concentrations of sulfur, minerals, salts and algae that it possesses, those that act as exfoliants to skin, leaving a feeling of softness throughout the body.

This trip had an excellent range of acivities. The lake is genuinely pink, no filters needed, the boat trip was lovely and a great chance to spot the local wildlife, the crocodile farm was very interesting and the crocodiles and black headed vultures very sweet. Our guide Arturo was professional and informative and managed to convey everything to the party in at least four different languages that i heard. Most impressive. So given all this why only 3 stars you ask? Two main issues (one easily solved by taking a few snacks) and the other very major indeed. As a vegetarian, being given a ham sandwich for my lunch box was not great and there doesn't seem to be any way to request another option. There was a salad option for lunch but i found it too salty to eat (apparently the chicken dish was okay). So, if you are picky take your own snacks. However, then there is the thing we could do nothing about and which did its best to ruin our day. Our bus was full and as our connectiin arrived late we were in the back seats. These seats are probably fine for kids up to age 10 but they are not big enough for adults. The four of us in the row couldnt all lean back at once because our shoulders would not fit. My husband and i both ended sitting on sharp edges at the sides of the seats and i still feel bruised today (i have never had trouble fitting in a seat before and luckily everyone else in our row was slender). We were stuck thigh to thigh, literally couldn't move and after three hours felt hideously claustrephobic. I suggest the people arranging these trips get put four across in the back of this bus and driven round for a total of six hours like we were. Most physically uncomfortabke bus ride i have ever been on.Kathy A

We went in a small motor boat to see the flamingos. We also saw alligators, pelicans, many other birds, we had a clay bath and we swam in the Gulf of Mexico. Our guide Jose was very informative and we were able to communicate despite our minimal Spanish. The boat will hold a maximum 6 people and the price you pay is for the boat, regardless of the number of people. We did not book our tour ahead.devitos13

This was an amazing day trip! Very well coordinated and many stops and things to do! Totally worth it! Nonstop but beautiful . This was an amazing day trip! Very well coordinated and many stops and things to do! Totally worth it! Nonstop but beautiful . We did las coloradas, breathtaking pink salt lakes and then we did Rio Lagartos where we saw crocs, flamingos, pelicans, all right next to our boat. We also had a Mayan mud bath and beach time and the lunch was delicious! Only downside was the ride there cause it took forever from Cancun but it is what it is, that is the time it takes.
