The bikes are ok. Running but old. We booked via Website - was possible to select pick ip at 8 a.m., they do open at 9?! This is not really customer friendly.

We took the full day rental of electric bikes and cycled over to Sausilito. Team in the shop were soooo helpful, changed saddle heights to suit, showed us how to use the electric assistance to its best - so much that we returned both bikes with full range. To top it all off, fab music in the shop

One of the best things you can do in San Francisco. Just grab a bike (you don't have to be very sporty) and cycle over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito for Lunch. The views are amazing and the trails are safe and easy. You can already buy the ferry tickets to San Francisco at the bike shop. Bike were in very good condition and the staff very helpful. I strongly recommand!!!

Great service. The bikes were great for uphill/downhill San Francisco. I am not a frequent biker, but managed with the city bikes. They have different suggestions for routes throughout the city. We ran a flat tire going downhill. We made a quick call and they send someone with a new bike. The bikes have a small bag on the wheel were you can put some belongings in.

I rented an electric bike via Bay City Bike after looking online for the best price vs location vs ease. I definitly recommend Bay City Bike, the reservation was easily made and fast to check when picking up. Their service is on point, they tell you how to use the bike and what to in case something happens. Apart from good service and good price, the bike was also nice, worked well. Last but not least, the people working at Bay City Bike are nice!

The electric bike rental was the best way to see everything we wanted to and get around town efficiently. The employees were very nice and helpful and the bikes were in great working condition.

Got electric! We rented bikes with the intent of going across the Golden Gate Bridge and back. We ended up riding all over the place for 7.5 hours. The electric bike made it so easy.

Rented e bikes and cycled along well marked cycle lanes and tracks to Golden Gate Bridge and then across to golden gate park. E bikes made everything easy as it’s not a flat ride Great service and quality bikes Book online for a good discount

E-Bikes are the future! Amazing few hours spent making our way over the Golden Gate Bridge and surrounding areas. Powerful enough to get us up to Lombard Street and thankfully, the brakes held out coming back down! So much fun, teens (13 & 15) thought it was the highlight of our 2 week holiday in CA. Discount available using the app. Check in was easy, big deposit taken but returned no hassle as soon as we returned. Roads were super safe with bike lanes all over. Cars were cautious and gave us space. Polar opposite from cycling in London!

San Francisco is a famously hilly city. However, when asked whether it would be ok to do the suggested route (Fisherman's Wharf to City Park and back) on a city bike, the staff told us there were only a few steep parts that were marked on the map. In reality, around 1/3 of the route was uphill. That would be ok, except that the city bike is simply not designed for riding uphill — the back is so heavy that it feels like riding a regular bike with a young teenager on your back. I wish the staff had been more blunt about terrain and tried to upsell us the sport bike or the electric bike.

The hiring of the bikes was really straightforward and the bikes themselves very comfortable. We opted to go without a group and cycle along fishermans wharf to see all the different sights as we cycled out to sausilito (I am spelling that incorrectly). Very easy to organise for both collection and return so no complaints with this service at all.

Good bikes but bad manager. We rented a bike for one day, but he refused to change low battery after 19 miles, cost to change battery = 35$ !

If you only do 1 thing in San Francisco riding over the Golden Bridge combined with a ferry home this is it. On a beautiful day this is one of the best experience we have had

So we opted to rent the bikes on a self guided cycle to Sausalito to return by Ferry. Bay city rentals staff were super friendly and helpful. As is common practice today a $200 deposit was reserved on the booking card which was released instantly upon return of the bikes. The bikes were in good condition and checked fir size and tyre inflation and brakes etc before release. The staff member gave us a brief walk through of the big features and locks etc before explaining how we accessed the bike path down the street. Each bike had all the necessary equipment and it was super straight forward. There was also a little laminated map on the handlebar bag should you need it. Having said that if you did need that map and managed to somehow get lost in your pursuit of the largest landmark west of the the the Grand Canyon I would suggest you’re a one of a kind and you have my sympathies 🤣🤣 The shop is at the turning circle of the Bay and Taylor stop of the cable car. When we got to Sausalito which is a pretty adventurous cycle the ferry’s will take you and your bike back to SF. They advertise limited bike storage on the ferry but in practice they had room for upwards of 50/60 bikes if not substantially more. The last bikes on are the first bikes off but it’s a gamble leaving it to the end as there may not be space. Check ferry times for getting back to the bike rental shop and closing times of Bay City Rentals. Return of the bike process was again effortless. I would use BCR without hesitation in future and I highly recommend them.

My family of 4 rented bikes from Bay City using a Groupon. The girl at the counter had to call and get someone to put it through which wasn’t a problem. They have 2 locations and the employees go back and forth between them. Two young people with Irish accents checked us out and they were great. The were super friendly and helpful and showed us the route we would be taking to cross the Golden Gate Bridge into Sausalito. The showed us locations where there were hills and other useful information. We didn’t have a reservation but that wasn’t a problem since they have a ton of bikes. We picked out a helmet and a gentleman got our bikes for us. We are a tall family so it took a little bit to get 4 that we’re properly adjusted for us. The guy who got our bikes was great. He was through and made sure the tire pressure was good, we had bungies for our bags and bike lock. Honestly this guys needs a raise. He definitely needed help with all the people wanting bikes, but he hustled and did his job like a pro. He had us take a quick spin around to make sure everything was ok with the bike, which it was and we were on our way. The bikes were great. They were traditional gear bikes and we all felt they were in good condition and easy to ride. We are bike riding family so this itinerary may be a little ambitious for someone who doesn’t ride all the time. We left Bay St towards the Wharf area. Biked past Boudins Bakery towards pier 39 past the sea lions. Past Aquatic Park, Ghiradelli Square to the Palace of Fine Arts. Took a little break and walked around. Headed back towards Crissy Field and across the Golden Gate Bridge. The left side is designated for bicycles on the weekends which is great. The views are unbelievable. I’d suggest having a sweatshirt just in case, since it does get windy. Be sure to keep to the right because people are traveling back over the bridge on the left side. In addition you’ll get some cyclists who are flying past you like they are in a timed race. Once over the bridge you’ll be going down hill into Sausalito. The trail from the Wharf to Sausalito in easy to follow. It’s clearly marked , and as long as you keep the bay to your right you can’t get lost. In addition there are tons of other cyclists going the exact same way. We parked our bikes near the park with the fountain with the two elephants at the entrance. Pretty much where everyone else parks their bikes and we spent a few hours in Sausalito, did some shopping, had lunch and just admired the beauty of Sausalito. We took the ferry back. You can buy the tickets right outside the Blue and Gold Ferry at a kiosk. Line up at least 30 minutes in advance to make sure you get on. The guy who is in charge of the bikes is militant. But I guess he has to be to keep things moving and on time. Once off the Ferry it’s a quick 5 minute ride back to Bay City Bikes. They give a quick check of the bike and your done. The same young people were there when we returned and were just as friendly as before and asked how his trip was. Definitely give Bay City Bikes a try. It was the best part of our trip to San Francisco.

Really great day cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge. Bay City bikes were really helpful, decent bikes and good value for money. Really conveniently located for the return ferry from Sausalito

We rented two e-bikes via Viator, for our trip over the Golden Gate Bridge. Upon arrival there was a bit of confusion as at 10am the crowds queued in a mass outside - there were two separate counters at each end of the building - it was not clear whether there was a queue for pre-booked or whether both queues were the same - they could do with better signage to guide us. When we did get served we were met by friendly staff who advised us on the route to take and the workings of the bike. We had never ridden e-bikes before but their advice made us at ease. The location of the rental place was ideal with only a very short on-road route through Fisherman’s Wharf before becoming off-road cycle paths right over the bridge and on quieter roads on into Sausalito. The bikes were in good condition. We are very pleased that we decided on e-bikes as this made the journey an ease and get full use of our day of hire as we were able to ride to Sausalito and back again - yes, we could have caught the ferry back to San Fran but we had an evening boat tour booked on our break and the hill out of Sausalito on the e-bike was so easy we did not break a sweat even though it was 30+ degrees! The drop off was seamless and our deposit was returned with no issue. We would recommend!
