From Phi Phi: Sunset and Bioluminescent Plankton Boat Tour

Our boat was one of probably 8 boats at each stop, with 16 people per boat. Expect pictures to include people and boats. Also, if you pay the park pass online make sure you have the ticket visible as they will ask you for payment when you arrive on maya beach, and have no record of if you paid or not. PLEASE READ: to activate bioluminescent plankton, you must jump into the water at night. It is surreal and worth it!The tour was about 40 mins late so didn’t start well then on the actual tour our guides didn’t make much effort explaining anything about the place or what we could do, was a bit disorganised. Also they didn’t mention that the plankton can only be seen around 7:30-8pm after the tour ends. There was an option to switch boats and stay later if people wanted but just wish they had mentioned this in the beginning as we had already book a taxi back to our hotel for 7 when the tour was meant to end. So again just lack of communication! Snorkelling was good but that was the only highlight. It was just 4 of us on a private longtail, we enjoyed the tour. lots of snorkeling and quick stops. Monkey beach, Maya bay, etc. However if someone is not into snorkeling and swimming so much it can be a long day. Monkey beach, Maya bay, etc. However if someone is not into snorkeling and swimming so much it can be a long day. The sunset was nice out on the water and the Bioluminescent Plankton thing was really a dud, nothing like the description and pictures. I did jump in and stir them up to see them a bit but overall a waste of time IMO. The cost for the day was good and a decent sightseeing tour! if you choose this tour keep in mind that it is not a high end excursion but a fun day on a tiny boat! This tour included a trip to monkey beach (not monkey island), a few swimming/snorkelling spots which were beautiful, a view of Maya beach (currently closed for conservation), a small lunch of rice and fresh pineapple, a view of the sunset and a swim with the bioluminescent plankton. This tour included a trip to monkey beach (not monkey island), a few swimming/snorkelling spots which were beautiful, a view of Maya beach (currently closed for conservation), a small lunch of rice and fresh pineapple, a view of the sunset and a swim with the bioluminescent plankton. The highlight was the atmosphere and the views, the let down was the plankton. Our guide was kind and funny but did not speak much English and did not provide an explanation to any of the areas we visited. We purchased our tickets + the national park fee online however during the tour we learned that no one else paid the national park fee. As far as we are aware we did not enter a national park while on the tour. Although we spent a great day on the water I believe we overpaid for this experience. I would recommend going to one of the vendors on the island for this tour. The sights are stunningly beautiful but the tour is too long. There is a LOT of waiting around. All the boats travel around together so this criticism doesn’t just apply to the ‘get my guide’ tour. Guide didn’t speak any English.

The tour started out so promising! Went to Monkey Beach and enjoyed our time there and went to the next location for snorkeling. The guide never told us his name or how long we had at each place. This tour is advertised as island and beach hopping but it’s more like a snorkel and sit in the boat for a long time while the guide takes a nap. The guide napped at pretty much each location we went to. The sunset portion was us sitting out in the open water while the guide was on his phone, we had several people on the tour ask if we could leave because of how long we were just sitting around. We didn’t see any of the bioluminescent plankton either, we didn’t even appear to look for them. The food we got was a small serving of rice and two pieces of pineapple, no one was even offered water. Wouldn’t go again with the tour company, should just book on the island when you arrive.
