Stop At: Lighthouse of Chania, Old Market near Prince Bank, , Chania Town, Crete 731 32 Greece
This excursion brings us to West Crete and our first stop in Chania, the most ravishing city of Crete. It was an important Minoan city and the “mother of the Cretan cities”, according to ancient writers. The city is divided in the Old City, with the gorgeous harbor and the New City, beyond its Venetian fortifications. The Old City is one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean and is called “Venice of the East”. We can admire samples of all the civilizations that have passed from here: archaeological Minoan sites, Turkish minarets and mosques, Muslim neighborhoods, Venetian fortresses, dockyards, fountains, squares, arches, mansions, Loggia and the Lighthouse of Chania, Chania 731 32.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Rethymnon Old Town, Rethymnon, Crete Greece
Going back, we stop in Rethimnon, the third biggest town on Crete, where monuments of the archaeological, Ottoman and Venetian eras coexist, in an extremely interesting way. Have a stroll in the alleys of the old town, visit the Turkish minarets like Neratze Mosque and the Venetian fortresses or just enjoy your coffee in the magnificent harbor.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Lake Kournas, Kournas, Apokoronas, Crete 730 07 Greece
Leaving this extraordinary city, we arrive at the quaint Lake Kournas, a beautiful habitat with natural freshwater, one of a kind on Crete. Lush greenery, steep cavities between hills, rare species of fish and birds, like eels, moorhens and two-color turtles, make Kournas the ideal place to enjoy a swim before our lunch or an early afternoon walk. The whole area of Kournas is protected under Natura 2000, as it has been a designated wetland.

Very well organised trip. Going to Chania we stopped halfway for coffee and toilets, which was very thoughtful. In Chania had 2 hour free time, then went to lake Kournas, had 1.5h free time, if you are not very hungry throughout the day it is better to have your lunch around the lake due to beautiful scenery and you'll have more time then (there isn't that much to do around the lake, unless you actually plan to go swimming in it). Then we set off to Rethymno city, there we had 75min free time. The guide told about the cities and Crete while we were on the bus so in cities we had all our time to do what we wanted. Overall good enjoyable trip. Would recommend!Chania and Rethymno are charming cities! Of course the perfect weather made for some lovely pictures too :) the guides were very good and nice. Leave lunch for the lake and use your time in the towns to capture their charm.

Great to see another part of the island! Through Viator I picked a hotel near us for pick-up; but no one came. I called the number at Platanos and they told us we were supposed to be at another hotel. They said they’d sent an email. I didn’t receive the confirmation email until the end of the trip the next day. And in that email, another hotel was indeed listed. All very confusing! Viator issue or Platano issue? I don’t know.
