According to this critic, the construction of San Pietro, by Como masters, dates back to the eighth century, when Tuscania was donated by Charlemagne to Pope Adriano I: if this hypothesis were true, San Pietro would be a cornerstone in the history of Italian architecture as it would mark the transition point from the early Christian to the Romanesque forms. The CHURCH of CINEMA, in fact in 1966, the director Mario Monicelli decides to set in the church a scene of his famous film L'armata Brancaleone, in particular the scene in which the army goes to the palace of the family of Teofilatto dei Leonzi (Gian Maria Volonté), or the scenes of the meeting between Brancaleone and Teofilatto's aunt. Several other times the basilica has served as a natural setting for film production; among others we can mention the films: Otello by and with Orson Welles (1952), Pia de 'Tolomei by Sergio Grieco (1958), The Gospel according to Matteo by Pier Paolo Pasolini (1964), The man who laughs by Sergio Corbucci (1966), Uccellacci e Uccellini by Pier Paolo Pasolini (1966), Romeo and Juliet by Franco Zeffirelli (1968), Brancaleone alle cruste by Mario Monicelli (1970), Virgo, and named Maria di Sergio Nasca (1975), Nostalghia di Andrej Tarkovskij (1983), Francesco with Micky Rourke by Liliana Cavani (1989), Il giorno, la notte.
