Elephanta Caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a collection of cave temples predominantly dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. They are located on Elephanta Island, or Gharapuri (literally "the city of caves") in Mumbai Harbour, 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) to the east of the city of Mumbai in the Indian state of Mahārāshtra. The island, located offshore about 2 kilometers (1.2 mi) west of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port, consists of five Hindu caves and a few Buddhist stupa mounds that date back to the 2nd century BCE, as well as a small group of two Buddhist caves with water tanks.

I made contact with Linda Tours before we'd left the UK to ask advice on what we should/could see over our two days in the city. They were very helpful ad quick to reply. We were met promptly driven to the departure point for the boat and accompanied by our guide to The Elephanta Caves. They are very interesting. The guide had great knowledge. There are many steps to get to the caves but there is a sort of sedan chair service to get you up the steps ( extra charge) and a mini train to get you to the steps The trip was great and I thoroughly recommend Linda tours who didn't ask for payment until the tour was over. We paid in US dollars.I found this tour excellent. The guide was extremely knowledgeable about Elephanta Island, and spoke English very well. I found this tour excellent. The guide was extremely knowledgeable about Elephanta Island, and spoke English very well. He helped me to swiftly get my tickets and how to maneuver around the sites. He also helped me through the crowds to get a good seat on the return ferry. Living there he knew everyone, including which vendors and items were worth buying. The driver Dipen was also excellent. He spoke English very well and was a wealth of knowledge about the city and the country. I would highly recommend him as your driver. He knows his way around the city and was very helpful when making purchases. He was respectful and an excellent driver in Mumbai’s maddening traffic. I had booked a ride to Elephanta Island with Dipen for myself and some work colleagues. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the Gateway to India the ferries were not operating due to a typhoon alert. Without hesitation we rearranged our itinerary to include a quick city and market tour for our group. Dipen is kind, funny, informative and knowledgeable of all things about Mumbai. Even the Mumbai traffic did not affect our time in the car. Always entertaining, Dipen made our day an unforgettable experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Linda tours for anyone’s next visit to Mumbai and look forward to seeing Dipen again.
