15 million years ago the seawaters were removed from this region thanks to geological movements that formed the important mountains of Chiapas, among them, the mountains of the Sumidero Canyon, which began to suffer dissolution and erosion due to the same water, here the Canyon was born and began its formation which continues today.
The rocks we see today on the walls of the Sumidero Canyon began to form about 136 million years ago based on sediments and calcium minerals (limestones), which is formed by the action of some marine animals such as corals, this assumes that, in ancient times, this region of Chiapas was submerged by a shallow sea.

The Canyon as such began to form 70 million years ago thanks to the action of tectonic movements called Horts-Graben.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapa de Corzo, Southern Mexico
Chiapa de Corzo, a colonial site of tradition and culture, framed with the warmth of its people, is one of the most beautiful cities in the State of Chiapas; located just 15 minutes from the capital city; its value lies in its history, because it was the first city founded by the Spaniards during the sixteenth century.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Fuente Mudéjar, C. Mexicanidad de Chiapas 2, San Jacinto, 29160 Chiapa de Corzo, Chis., Mexico
From Chiapa de Corzo, stands out the Mudejar ensemble formed by La Pila, fountain of refined Moorish inspiration made of brick, unique in Latin America.
The fountain or pylon of Chiapa de Corzo is considered one of the most important artistic monuments not only of Mexico, but of America. It is the first fountain to be built in Chiapas, and the only Mudejar-style building made of brick throughout the state.
The Spaniards, in order to make their dominion over the Chiapa more notorious, they thought of erecting a monumental fountain, where the people needed to go and get some water every day. As you will see the fountain was built symbolically representing the crown of King Charles I of Spain and V of Germany.

His style is a mix of Baroque and Mudejar. The bricks in the form of a pyramidal pointy simulate the rhinestones of the Royal Crown. The turret on the east side, which is attached to the body of the monument by an arch, simulates the handle or handle of the crown.

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Parroquia Santo Domingo de Guzman, Av. Capitán Vicente López s/n, San Miguel, 29160 Chiapa de Corzo, Chis., Mexico
The main feature of the church is its facade, arranged as a gigantic altarpiece of mortar (mixture of lime, sand and water). The motifs are different and make this one of the most ornate facades of Mexican colonial art. Discovering them is a thorough observation.
Built between 1547 and 1551, by the order of the Dominican friars, it masterfully combines several elements of colonial Baroque. The gold-coated wood-carved pulpit is the most beautiful piece in the church. In the chapel of the Rosary is a Baroque altarpiece of the Holy Trinity, one of the best stohed carvings in the State.
