Walk by several Roman Kiosks, pass through the colossal gateway of Domitian and Trajan that is surrounded by a massive mud-brick enclosure and enter into the cavernous hypo style hall of Tiberius. Visit the best preserved temple in Egypt. See vivid scenes that depict the Roman emperor Trajan paying homage to the Ancient Egyptian goddess Hathor and other mythical reliefs that adorn this gorgeous Graeco-Roman temple.

Stop At: Abydos, Al Balyana, Sohag Egypt

Abydos is situated about 130km (80 miles) north of Luxor. For nearly 2,000 years Abydos was Egypt’s prime burial ground, as it marked the entrance to the underworld and is where Osiris’s head was buried. The city was called Abdju in the ancient Egyptian language, meaning "the hill of the symbol or reliquary", a reference to a reliquary in which the sacred head of Osiris was preserved.

We booked this tour at the very last minute and crammed it into our already crammed schedule. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences during our trip. Abydos and Dendera are both well preserved, with amazing colours. They are also a lot less crowded than some of the other temples, meaning you actually get to soak up the atmosphere. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and seemed to have a genuine interest in the temples hands down the best guide we had out of the four tours we did in Egypt. Much recommended.

This tour to dendera and abydos was fantastic. The guide was amazing and answered any and all questions we had. We were practically the only people there. Lunch was great but after eating the waiter brought tapioca pudding and of course we ate it but apparently it wasn't included. That was irritating.
