The Cave of the Apocalypse is situated about halfway up the mountain on the Aegean island of Patmos, along the road between the villages of Chora and Skala. This grotto is believed to mark the spot where John of Patmos received his visions that he recorded in the Book of Revelation.

The Monastery of Saint John the Theologian is a Greek Orthodox monastery founded in 1088 in Chora on the island of Patmos. UNESCO has declared it a World Heritage site. It is named after St. John of Patmos.

Chora Village Patmos: Chora is the capital of Patmos lying in the south central part of the island and a few km south of Skala, the main port of Patmos. The traditional settlement is built around the imposing Monastery of Saint John the Theologian, during the 12th century. Chora flourished between the 16th and 17th century during which beautiful mansions and captain residences were built from the wealthy families of that time.

Good guide when we eventually found where we were meant to be. No Viator representative at Patmos, we were just herded onto a bus. It would have been easier and cheaper to take a taxi. Hidden extra costs at monastery and cave - which was the whole point of the visit.

Ozan was an amazing guide! With extra time, he took us to a Turkish Carpet Weaving operation where we were treated as royalty and enjoyed a tradition lunch on the lawn (not street food), a carpet explanation and show complete with tea service and a demonstration of the silk cocoon being made into...
