Lino kept us all enthralled with stories about the history of the pyramid and the peoples who built it. We are a tough group to please with 5 family members( with graduate degrees) since we always want more information. Lino covered everything from construction, to botany of the area, to what is know about the lives of the ancient peoples. Lots of gradual walking to and from the site but the vistas are amazing and Lino paints a great picture of what it must have been like when this was a sacred site. Highly recommend!Interesting tour . Our small group tour was well-planned, enjoyable and very informative. Our tour guide, Lino, was very knowledgeable and nice to be around for several hours. The walk from where the official Park van let's you off to the site is uphill but not over rough ground. Climbing one of the pyramids is a part of the tour. After the tour you are driven to a local farm for a wonderful lunch made from items grown on the farm. Highly recommend it if you are comfortable walking.Lino was the tour guide for our group of 6 to the Canada de la Virgen site. Lino was the tour guide for our group of 6 to the Canada de la Virgen site. From pickup to drop-off he was engaging, friendly, solicitous, and knowledgeable - professional in all senses of the word. I came away with a far greater insight into San Miguel, MesoAmerican culture, and local wildlife from Lino's presentations than I ever expected. Be prepared for the walk from the site's shuttle bus drop to the pyramid at the top of the mesa; it isn't a long distance, but it is an uphill that can be a chore on a hot day. Lino's commentary made it go by quickly, though. The steps into the front courtyard and up to the top pyramid level may require some effort and care, but to stand in the exact spots of astronomical and ceremonial rites are worth it. So is the walk around the grounds to the temple, the housing ruins, and the pottery cache. And be sure to ask Lino about the story of the remains found on site - particularly Warrior Girl. The lunch following the tour was also a delight. The owner family's home is situated on a hillside with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, the local village, and the open-air chapel on a nearby hilltop. The food was excellent - as was the company - and the experience was relaxing and fun.Not only does he have an answer for every question, but adds insights from his knowledge of Indigenous cultures of Mexico. Not only does he have an answer for every question, but adds insights from his knowledge of Indigenous cultures of Mexico. He was sensitive to the needs of our group (6 people) - varying speeds of walking and stair climbing ability . . . and always alert to the whereabouts of everyone in the group. Pick-up was on time, items allowed and not allowed at the site were well delineated beforehand. We were all glad to have layers, big pockets to accomodate sunscreen, cameras, and sun protective hats all help on this walking tour - there is little shade, but occasional benches for listening to the tour information. The lunch at the ranch was wonderful - a beautiful place to enjoy the farm based food which was ready for us the minute we arrived. It was good to know that we contributed to the livelihood of the farm community. Take extra cash for purchase of cold bottled drinks, hand made pitcher covers and hand embroidered tortilla wraps.
