Stop At: Cathedrale Saint-Gatien, Place de la Cathedrale, 37000, Tours France

The Saint-Gatien cathedral presents a very complete set of French religious architecture from the 12th to the 16th century. The base and foothills of the towers are Romanesque, the general ornamentation is pure gothic, radiant and flamboyant, and the summits of the two towers are in the Renaissance style of the early sixteenth century. She has an exceptional jewel: her stained glass collection. The most beautiful, dazzling, adorn the chapels of the ambulatory and the high windows of the choir. It is one of the most perfect sets of the thirteenth century (stained glass medallions) existing in Europe, complete, intact, multicolored, very varied. We must add the two roses of the transept, the fourteenth century, as well as those of the nave and the facade, the fifteenth. Another beautiful 15th century stained glass window adorns one of the south aisle chapels.

Pass By: Place Plumereau, 37000, Tours France

The many medieval houses of Place Plumereau are a must for both tourists and students of the neighboring University. During the day, the half-timbered houses of the 15th century invite you to sit and have a coffee in this center of Old Tours, full of History. The former "Carroi with Hats" was indeed a place known to the bourgeoisie who came to buy flowers to decorate his hats and housed some of the most notable personalities of the city. But at night, Place Plume, as the nicknamed the Tours, becomes the center of the nightlife with the many bars of the square and adjacent streets. In summer, the terraces of the square are often crowded and the atmosphere very festive.

Pass By: Pont wilson, Haut de la Rue Nationale, 37000, Tours France

The Wilson Bridge, built between 1765 and 1778, is the oldest bridge in Tours. Composed of 15 arches, it is 434 meters long and straddles the Loire. The Tourangeaux call him "Stone Bridge". It opens to the south of the place Choiseul at the bottom of the Avenue de la Tranchée and north of the place Anatole-France in front of the street National.

Stop At: Basilique Saint Martin, 7 rue Baleschoux, 37000, Tours France

The basilica of Saint-Martin de Tours houses the tomb of Martin de Tours.
The former collegiate church of St. Martin of Tours, which dated mainly from the eleventh century, was decommissioned, vandalized and converted into a stable in 1793, then demolished following the collapse of the vaults in 1797, only two towers are preserved. The current basilica, much more modest, was built between 1886 and 1902 in the neo-Byzantine style by architect Victor Laloux (inauguration in 1890). It is a building in limestone, granite and marble, covered with slates. For the murals, the architect addressed Pierre Fritel, and the decorative work was done with the help of the painter and decorator Adrien Lavieille. A monumental statue of Saint Martin, in bronze, intended to adorn the dome, was commissioned to the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Hugues (Prix de Rome in 1875). Victor Thiébaut, foundry, delivered it in 1889. The building was consecrated as basilica on July 4, 1925.
The remains of the former collegiate church (the Charlemagne tower, the clock tower and a cloister gallery) have been classified as historical monuments.
The President of the French Republic has the honorary title of canon (ad honores) of the basilica.
