First let me say, this 65+ year old gal and hubby thoroughly enjoyed this adventure. We did not have any preconceived notions on what it would be like and it far exceeded our expectations. Our instructors, Michael and Oliver, were superior in knowledge and training experience with warm, friendly personalities. Some comic relief mixed with serious safety precautions. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to not only visit the sand dunes at Jockey Ridge, but live out the dream of the Wright Bros on their first attempt at flight. Exhilarating and fun!Super fun experience learning to hang glide. I didn't think I'd be successful, but I did it! Super fun experience learning to hang glide. I didn't think I'd be successful, but I did it! The instruction at the beginning was at the perfect level for beginners, building confidence from the start. We each got 5 flights and the instructors were by our side on the ground the entire time, coaching and doing the heavy lifting of getting gliders back up the dunes. My elementary school and middle school kids enjoyed it and made it look easy. Views from the dunes were beautiful. Experiencing Jockey Ridge State Park and the dunes in this way was thrilling.I read about hang gliding with Kittyhawk kites in a blog about things to do with your kids in the OBX, so I decided to try it with my 14 and 15 year olds. The instructors were all knowledgeable, friendly, and laid back. Five runs insured everyone got to glide and make a solid landing. It was safe and exciting. I would do it again and highly recommend it.Awesome experience! The staff were professional, patient, funny, and welcoming! Awesome experience! The staff were professional, patient, funny, and welcoming! Our 3 kids (ages 18, 20, 22). enjoyed beginner lessons on the dunes at Jockey's Ridge. Charlie did the ground school and E was their instructor for the flights. The instructors were energetic and positive throughout the 3 hours we were at the park. They were so helpful and kind throughout the experience in spite of the heat. They gave great instruction and carried the hang glider up the hill after each flight ready to go again. Our kids loved it so much they scheduled a 2000 ft tandem flight for 2 days later at the Cotton Gin, Jarvisburg. There the staff was just as welcoming and fun. We met Billy who gave the safety briefing, Eli who drove us on the golf cart out to the field, Jonny who flew the plane and gave us a bit of history about the place. He was so kind and patient and did a great job flying the kids on their 2000 ft Tandem flight. Our daughter was celebrating her birthday and he made it extra special for her. They all treated us like family. The tandem pilot was Andy who did a great job instructing and making the flight one they will never forgot! The other tandem pilot, Mike was just as nice. We were able to purchase video from the flights as well (bring cash or check for the video card but it will be worth it-there is an ATM nearby). It was so refreshing to see a group of people who love what they do and want to make sure you love it, too. Thank you for making our vacation one to remember!Floating across the dunes is an amazing fun experience. The training and comfort you get from the instructors is great. Floating across the dunes is an amazing fun experience. The training and comfort you get from the instructors is great. It doesn't feel scary at all, since the instructors hold your glider the whole time, and you get 5 maybe 6 feet off the ground tops. Overall, a great introductory experience. Important! It is HARD WORK! Be prepared to climb sand dunes, hike about 0.25miles in sand, and then RUN RUN RUN down the dune... only to have to climb back up it. It's very hard and hot work. 2 families, 5 kids ages 10 to 14, adults 40 to 52. We ALL had a blast. Nic was flawless. We all learned so much & were striving to improve, but having a BLAST at the same time. My sides still hurt. Not from crashing, but from laughing in between flights. Very easy physically. The hardest part was walking through the sand dunes to get there (1/4 to 1/2 mile) & back. You don’t have to be an athlete to do this. I‘m still trying to work my way back from major surgery without access to a gym(COVID-19). I always felt safe and heights make me uncomfortable. when I did a nose-dive into the sand, it was no big deal. (Totally my fault I pulled in instead of pushing out). Nic was great motivating and encouraging each of us. He also did a great job of adjusting to each of us. The instructors are close enough to protect you from making a flight error. They kind of fly you like a kite. For each of the four in my family, this was the 2nd best highlight of a great trip (Only behind spending time laughing with close friends and family).
