We enjoyed a Friday afternoon stroll along the beautiful homes in the National Historical area. Our guide Dean was wonderful he knows the history very well and made the past come alive. We enjoyed the attention to details and the ability to ask questions and he was more than happy to answer them. He should write a book about the historical homes. We will come back soon to enjoy another tour with Dean. This is a great place to start your tour of Beaufort and enjoy lunch at one of the wonderful eatery around the area.My husband and I discovered Beaufort by looking at a map (our first time to South Carolina) and were so glad we were able to learn about this historical and beautiful city through our guide, Dean. My husband and I discovered Beaufort by looking at a map (our first time to South Carolina) and were so glad we were able to learn about this historical and beautiful city through our guide, Dean. It was so hot outside, and Dean never complained as he led us through the streets and told us about the military history and people who made Beaufort what it is. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to know the stories behind the amazing residences and waterways. On February 28th my wife and I spent a quite informative afternoon with Dana our tour guide. On February 28th my wife and I spent a quite informative afternoon with Dana our tour guide. This was Dana’s first tour after an extensive training program. She was enthusiastic and very personable. We were amazed about her knowledge of Beaufort. Her telling of the story of Robert Smalls a slave during the civil war was the highlight of our tour along with all the beautiful antebellum homes in Beaufort. We highly recommend the historic walking tour, and if your fortunate enough to get Dana as your tour guide you will have a wonderful afternoon. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour through the historic part of Beaufort. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour through the historic part of Beaufort. I've been visiting this part of South Carolina for years but had never done this before and it was totally worth it! Our guide, Dean, was knowledgeable, engaging, and most of all entertaining. He was dressed as a Union soldier which was surprising unless you know the history of Beaufort. He told stories about individuals who lived in some of the beautiful houses as well as the general history of the area. We also learned about all the movies that have been filmed in and around Beaufort which was fun to hear about. He answered all of the questions we had which were many. This is one of the first things to do on your visit to Beaufort - it gives you a great feel for the city and you get to know your way around. This was one of the best historical tours I have ever been on. This was one of the best historical tours I have ever been on. I love learning the history of places and I was shocked and amazed at Beaufort's history. The tour guide was so incredibly knowledgeable as well as entertaining. He really made our day a lovely afternoon of good conversation and exploration of this beautiful town. The walking made the tour even better because it felt like a fun adventure. The stories were all uplifting and full of details that made me want to go home and read diaries and biographies of the prominent figures that spent time in Beaufort. I was on a tour with my family and my two nieces 10 & 12 who were also entertained by the tour. The guide told them stories that interested them without dumbing things down. He engaged them in real conversation about history. He was also very knowledgeable about the houses and their construction which was also fascinating. I am a teacher and he paid particular attention to telling stories about the various schools and teachers that were a part of the reconstruction period in Beaufort. I just can't say enough how this was a joyful day for my family. Loved it, start to finish.
