A tour for mountain bikers that want to have fun on this itinerary through a breathtaking scenery.
A ride towards the lake of Castel Gandolfo (the summer residence of the Pope), biking through the well preserved Roman countryside, finding yourself in the true nature and discovering landscapes that were caught by numerous famous painters before. After the Caffarella park the Roman aqueducts will arise making you understand how these masterpieces have had such an influence on human society.
At the Capanelle train station the tour will persecute by train to Castel Gandolfo. After a 30 minutes journey by train a great path for mountain bikes will lead you around the Albano lake where you can enjoy the real fun of biking. And just when it is time to relax, your guide will lead you to a nice restaurant with a wonderful view on Castel Gandolfo lake.
After lunch it will be time to head back to Rome: a nice descent will set in. Once downhill, the bike tour will follow the ancient Appia Antica; biking on cobble stones that date back more than 2300 years ago and being amazed along the road by tombs, ruins and ancient Roman remains. This tour will be a great chance to see Rome's beautiful surroundings, feel part of ancient Roman history and last but not least enjoy the fun of biking.
The tour lasts 9 hours, covering 50 km (32 mls), elevation of 150 mt (165 yds). Difficulty level: intermediate, 70% off-road (becomes challenging if muddy)
From Metro COLOSSEUM (10 to 15 minutes) At the main exit go left, along the side walk (keep the Colosseum on your right). It is easier to take the right sidewalk of the street (Piazza del Colosseo) and so you pass by the Colosseum. At the traffic light go straight on. You are now walking into Via Labicana. Continue walking straight for about 5 minutes and you will find us at your right on number 49.
From Metro MANZONI (about 10 minutes) From Metro Manzoni, you will walk into Viale Manzoni towards the center (Via Merulana). At the crossing with via Merulana you go straight on which is already Via Labicana. It is easiest to take the left sidewalk of Labicana street, since you will find us at your left at number 49.
