Definitely visit this museum if you are in Dubrovnik. An insightful, fun, interactive and educational museum. Full of insights into life in the Communist period which has played a role in shaping modern Croatia. There is an excellent team behind this museum and they are contributing hugely to contemporary Dubrovnik. While in the area you can also eat at the Taverna Loggia and also drink at the Dubrovnik Beer Company. Well worth exploring this "antidote to the old town". And look out for the museum's useful signs highlighting interesting modern buildings on the city. The Red museum is a small site but has very interesting insights into life in the communist period, with interactive scenes allowing a real taste of the day-to-day products and processes of the Yugoslavian period, with cupbioards and drwaers full of cluthing, equipment and artefacts.

From my USA lens and not visiting many communist countries (or former ones) this detailed but brief glimpse of the red period for this area (country/region) was eye-opening concise and a MUST SEE besides the walk around the old city that is valued but your 60-90 minutes here will invite you to look at own developed values as well as to gain world perspectives after 1919 to 1991. As Americans we only know Russia (USSR) and China with a glimpse of Cuba or Vietnam yet this is like a senior college course to get a lesson in history ...Cliff Notes for some of us. Fun, deep and MUST GO. Have a beer down the street and give some credit to the founders of this relevant new museum -interactive and playful. Thumbs up.A great museum to visit, I really liked the interactive displays. Nino was very informative and welcoming. The museum is small, but absolutely worth the trip - located in the Dubrovnik port area, about 35 min walk from the city centre or 12 € for a taxi. If you want to learn more about the communist history of Yugoslavia and Croatia, this is the place to be - from everyday life to the intelligence service, everything is there. The exhibition is extremely well curated, with much attention to detail and a love for great story-telling. It is very interactive, you can sit in a Yugo car, listen to the greatest hits or explore an authentic flat of the time. You also have the option to download an augmented reality app which is extremely well done. The museum is interesting for those who are already interested in this part of history as well as for those who are completely new to it - absolute recommendation for your visit if you want to go beyond the classic sightseeing in the city centre.
