Caution! He started really good with us while he was driving us to the tunnels, on our way to Guanajuato. Then he asked us if I have a copy of the itinerary of the tour??? I was shocked that he didn’t have any as to the details of the tour. So I scrambled to look at the detail itinerary of the tour. I had a hard time because the internet were not that great. Then he parked his car where we can get a nice view of the whole Guanajuato, for a good picture. The parking attendant asked us for the parking fee, for $20 Mexican pesos. Our tour guide said that he didn’t have any money and he asked us to lend him the money. So we obliged so we can get out of the parking. Then he stopped by at a gas station, and kept telling us that he didn’t have any gas, and he had to pay for the gas. Not sure why he kept saying it to us when we didn’t have anything to do with it. The gas is already part of the money that we paid for the tour, and that was his responsibility. He told us that the tour was only 8 hours , from 9-5. He was late when picked us up for about 20 minutes. So then we thought, okay we hoped he will give us some time. After driving for about 5 hours into the city ( mind you, I’m still scrambling to look on my smart phone for the detail itinerary so I can show him because I thought we were not following the detail itinerary at all)…. He kept telling us about the Christo Rey, and we’re about 30 minutes away from it, then he detoured… so we asked that we thought we were going there, but he said that we need to give him extra $25 US dollars each person to get there. Mind you, We already paid $70 US dollars each. Disappointingly, we told him that we didn’t need to be there then. Then he dropped us off in the corner of a town, and asked us to meet him in front of this very expensive restaurant and to wait for him ? So we waited but we thought, we will just get into the restaurant and order, and he could just text or call us to meet him outside. Then, he came in to the restaurant, stood in front us, seemed like he wanted to sit w us and eat w us? That was really strange. But we were firm to him this time that we will wait for him outside. He looked at us disappointingly I thought. This time it’s already at 3… and we only have 2 more hours to actually fulfill the detail iterations of the tour. And alas, I finally found the itineraries of the tour w a better internet in that restaurant. As soon as we got out of the restaurant, I showed him the itinerary, and told him that we need to fulfill and must see what’s included in the itinerary of the tour. And one of that is the museum of Diego Rivera. And the museum fee is included in the tour. He was trying to argue w me that it was not part of the tour but I showed him that it was. Then he showed us as if he was calling someone … Anyways, we were able to fulfill what’s in the itinerary, maybe 5 out of 6. But it seems like a struggle for us. I have used aviator before when we were in Amsterdam and other parts of Europe and they were good. But not this time in SMDA. We felt that he could have fooled us if we let him do it but we just could not. We paid $70 US dollars each person and that’s not the way you treat any tourist who come to your town. He was very nice and very apologetic towards the end , and was asking us and more concerned for us to give him good reviews … maybe not. Lesson for any tourist … make sure to save your detailed itinerary and just be wary and careful! The Spanish discovered chocolate in Mexico 300 years ago. The Spanish discovered chocolate in Mexico 300 years ago. Now in San Miguel de Allende, I tasted it in every form; truffles, churros, ice cream, hot chocolate, and even gravy. Leslie (Les), my guide from Viator, walked me from treat to treat in and around the main square. This is my idea of a perfect tour, including a drop into some beautiful buildings in between eating chocolate and Les's fascinating history of cocoa. First and foremost, our guide, Hector, was amazing, knowledgeable, and a very pleasant person. He picked us up promptly at our doorstep and we were off. The history of Guanajuato was like a slice out of time. The silver and gold mining, the tunnel system that is a major part of the street system for the city now, the churches and haciendas. Much to explore here. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring your camera!Emma was amazing! Knowledgeable about the sites and passionate about the topics.
