I had a great time in this cooking class. Rina, who's from Okinawa, taught us how to cook four different traditional Okinawan dishes including Rafute, Goya Champuru, Asa Soup, and traditional fried donuts! The dishes were delicious and authentic as Rina learned them from her Okinawan grandmother and explained the traditional version of Goya Champuru is vegetarian while most restaurants serve modified versions with meat. I was also surprised to learn that Asa Soup may have a special benefit of boosting your immune system and protecting against the Coronavirus (Covid-19)! Needless to say this is definitely a way to protect oneself if it actually works - and a delicious placebo at the very least! We also took a tour of the local market to learn more about the local ingredients and seafood. Rina also taught me how to pick out the freshest Goya (Bittermelon) - she knows her stuff! Finally after the class, I made the first 3 dishes for my wife and she was happy so definitely 5 stars for Taste of Okinawa! Arigato gosaimasu!"Taste of Okinawa Cooking Experience". "Taste of Okinawa Cooking Experience". That was what we came here for. It started with a market tour (to buy ingredients for the cooking class) and followed by the cooking class itself. We did not know what to expect before the tour. But we all enjoyed the class very much, especially when we taste the fruits of our labour. The Okinawa Soba, Mozuku-su and Jyu-Shi. The teacher also offered us sashimi and sweets for dessert. This tour would rate as one of the best experiences we had in Okinawa. The teacher/guide was a friendly and knowledgeable person. He tried every hard to convey the food and culture to us. But only one small complain, I wish he was more relaxed and not so tense. Other than that it would have been a perfect day (maybe we the students stressed him out?? Haha) #tasteofokinawa #okinawa #okinawacookingexperience #markettour #cookingclass #Japan #okinawasoba #Mozukisu #jyushiExcellent experience! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Taste of Okinawa! Our instructor, Rina-san, was not only patient with us but she took her time to explain to us the story behind each ingredient that has been used. We also enjoyed our walk to the public market to shop for the ingredients to cook and Rina-san is a celebrity in the area! (She knows everyone from the shop owners (one of the owners even gave us a small gift to take home!) to a random person on the street!). We were able to taste fresh ingredients from sea grape (highly recommended) to Okinawan fishcake. This place is a must if you are a foodie like us and you are curious about interesting Okinawan ingredients! Thank you, Rina-san!
