- Permit
- The restricted permits for Manaslu are issued from Sunday through Friday at 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please note that the permit office is also closed during public holidays but we will let you know if this will be the case.
- It usually takes about 4 hours to issue the permit and this requires the original passport of the trekker. We will need to hold your passport for this time period to request the government to issue the permit. If you do not have a spare day for the trekking preparation we can also expedite the permit. Please let us know.
- What document do we need from you?
- ID picture (passport size - 3 copies)
- Scanned copy or clear image of the passport
- Travel Insurance (not compulsory but strongly recommended for your safety)
- Copy of the roundtrip ticket to Nepal for the expedited permit
- Transportation
- There is a total distance of about 138 km (86 miles) between Kathmandu to Sotikhola. The first half (90km) of the road is well-cemented (this is between Kathmandu and Dhading) so your ride would be comfortable. However, after this would be a challenging ride, with dust, mud and very narrow road. During normal traffic, it will only take 6-7 hour for the private jeep to reach Sotikhola and for the local bus, it may take an hour longer.
- Private jeep will be provided if the group size is at least 4 trekkers. For a group less than 4, you need to take a local bus from Kathmandu to Arughat, and then a local jeep from Arughat to Sotikhola.
- Trail update: Due to the ongoing road construction on the trail, the first two days (from Sotikhola to Tatopani), the walking times might be longer than a usual. In some parts, because the usual trails are closed, a detour will be required.
- Accommodation
- Basic private rooms with shared toilet are mostly available throughout the trek. However, please expect one night in Dharmasala where you may need to share a room with other trekkers during high season. Beds, blankets, and pillows may be provided. Also, the weather could be very cold so sleeping bags are a must which is included in the package above (or you can also bring your own if you wish)
- Food
- Each tea house has a restaurant/kitchen offering continental food. "Dal bhat power for 24 hours", the most common Nepali dish allows you to eat rice as much as you can. Normally any vegetables served in tea houses are produced from their own field. This is usually organic, so good for your health. Not every camp offers meat (chicken, mutton, and pork). Please also note that beef is almost non-existent here. If they do, you should check with your guide if this is fresh before you placed the order. Because of the altitude and weather, it is sometimes difficult to raise these animals for consumption. Storing the meat over the winter could also be challenging. Better safe than sorry.
- In our package from above, it is included 3 times food in one day which you can choose from the menu.
- Drinking water
- Relatively, the water in the mountain is not as polluted as in the city and are usually drinkable. You will see locals and your guide drinking this water with no issues. However, to be safe, please make sure you use water purification drop. or drink bottled water. Bottled water is available to buy in each camp (roughly NPR 200 (USD 2) in the lower elevation and NPR 400 (USD 4) in the higher elevation). Majority of trekkers use water purification drop or tablet or water filter to save money. In the package, the water purification tablet and one (empty) water bottle are included.
- During the day, you don't need to carry more than one litre of extra water . Normally, the water source is available every one to two hours of walking distance where you can refill water.
- Difficulties
- Due to the long days before reaching high altitude, the success rate of Manaslu trek is still much higher than Everest Base Camp or any other trek in Nepal. Based on our experience, around 95% of our groups managed to complete the Manaslu trek with no altitude sickness issues. Watch this video to learn more https://youtu.be/6uO6Xn6q_68

- Luggage storage
- You can store your luggage in the hotel as most of the hotel in Kathmandu offers a free luggage storage facilities. If you are not comfortable to store in the hotel, we will collect your luggage and store it in our office.

We had a great time trekking in the Manaslu region with this company. The manager was kind and very proficient in english, and even let us store our leftover luggage (apparently a tent is not needed :p) at their office. Our guide, Milan, was a very kind and caring man who helped us in answering the many questions we had about the trek and about Nepal in general. He pampered us by serving our food, guiding us to our rooms, and being available at all times. He's an expert on the Manaslu region, able to name all the mountains and peaks that come into vision. He also knows some very good places to take pictures, which leaves us with some great souvenirs to remember this trip by. All in all it was a very relaxing and beautiful trek, which I definitely recommend.Recently I read a good guide makes all the difference during your trek. Recently I read a good guide makes all the difference during your trek. This is the first time I have hiked with a guide and after completing the Manaslu Circuit I completely agree! Our guide Harry was fantastic and made a big difference. We decided to wait until we were in Kathmandu before settling on a trekking company. After some research and wandering around Thamel checking out a few trekking agencies we were fairly sure NEST was the best choice for Manaslu. This was confirmed by the last agency we checked out when they brought up the NEST website to discuss the trek, which was very amusing. So we took the plunge and the NEST team and Harry were fantastic! The Teahouse choices by Harry were great (we paid for our own food rather than having it as part of the package for flexibility). If you haven’t done a lot of hiking with all your gear get a porter. You will enjoy crossing the pass more without the load to carry (most people we came across during the trek had porters). If you are like me and carrying the gear is part of the experience and challenge, don’t bother with one. All-round a fantastic experience, thanks NEST!Super impressed with NEST and our guide Harry after an amazing 14 day trek around the Manaslu Circuit. Super impressed with NEST and our guide Harry after an amazing 14 day trek around the Manaslu Circuit. From the minute we started researching Manaslu, we found more information on the NEST website than any others. They are clearly experts in this region. This was reinforced when we visited a different agency in Thamel, enquired about Manaslu and that agency brought up the NEST website and sample itineraries to answer our questions. We were pretty confident that we chose wisely before we started and never doubted the decision once we were on our way. Our guide Harry was fantastic. So attentive and eager to help in anyway, whether that was answering questions about the mountains, Nepali culture or our route, advising us on the best dishes in the various tea-houses, or even offering to carry some of my load when I was struggling at the end of the day. His English was excellent, definitely amongst the best of the guides that we encountered on the way, and other trekking groups we met, directed their questions about altitude sickness to Harry when they experienced communication problems with their own guide. He has an amazing attitude, buckets of energy, and knows the route inside out. My only piece of advise for future trekkers : if you haven’t trekked the Himalayas before, get a porter. We didn’t and it definitely made a challenging trek even more challenging. But that’s the only thing I would change. We loved our experience, we’re so glad we chose NEST and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. We just did the manaslu trek with sunil bhandari as our guide. Sunil is amazing! We just did the manaslu trek with sunil bhandari as our guide. Sunil is amazing! He was kind, knowledgeable and well organized. He knew all the good guest houses and arranged things well. I would highly reccomend sunil as a guide! The office staff was nice and straight forward. We didn’t do a whole package but just paid for guide and transport. I’m not sure how they are with the whole package. I would say I trust this company when compared with others. . As with any company - make sure to ask multiple times and what they actually pay the guides and what actual costs are. Manaslu is amazing! Beautiful mountains, villages and great trail. 13 days is plenty to do it as roads on either end make it a bit shorter than in past yearsWe had an awesome time on our Manaslu trek with our guide, Sunil Bhandari. We had an awesome time on our Manaslu trek with our guide, Sunil Bhandari. The trek had beautiful views and was the perfect amount of challenge to feel a sense of accomplishment and exercise, but not get too exhausted! Sunil did a wonderful job planning how far we would trek each day, and picking comfortable and cozy teahouses (that were warm especially at high elevations!). Sunil always had safety first and guided us carefully past any areas that were prone to landslides- so important! He also spotted a lot of interesting animals and plants and told us information about them including blue sheep, monkeys, rhododendrons, different types of yak, even rare snow leopard paw prints and more! Also before the trek, Sandeep recommended us on what gear we need and where to buy it for a good price (I was really happy he told us we needed crampons! The pass day would have been a lot worse without them.) I would 100% recommend the Manaslu trek with Sunil! I wish we were still out there trekking now :)In October 2022, with a group of friends, we did the Manaslu Circuit Trek with the NEST Adventure agency. In October 2022, with a group of friends, we did the Manaslu Circuit Trek with the NEST Adventure agency. We found the NEST Adventure on the internet based on good reviews, but because it was our first time in Nepal, we didn't know how it would turn out. Fortunately, everything went well. At the beginning we contacted the owner Raj via zoom, with whom we discussed logistics, costs and all the questions we had. After arriving in Kathmandu our guide Netra Pokhrel was waiting for us at the airport, who from that moment took care of us. Throughout our stay in the mountains, we felt taken care of, safe, thanks to which we could fully enjoy the trekking and immerse ourselves in the mountains. When problems occured he always knew what to do, how to react, so we knew he was the right person in the right place. Netra is a wonderful, humble man and a great guide, he became our friend during trekking. Thank you Netra! With a pure heart I can recommend Nest Adventure and above all the Netra guide. This trip will stay in my memories forever.
