Itinerary

Stop At: Chengdu, Chengdu, Sichuan

There are a million reasons Chengdu is an international food destination. It’s a UNESCO city of gastronomy. It’s the most popular Chinese cuisine in China. It has the highest per-capita ratio of restaurants in all of China. And at the same time, visitors know very little about food in Chengdu.

Travel by tuktuk and encounter spots you could never find on your own for a mix of street food, sit-down restaurants, and family-run joints:

Chengdu Street Crepes: This classic local street food comes in one of 4 flavor profiles: sweet, salty, spicy, and strange at a street-stall-turned-shop.

Sichuan-style Wontons: Learn why locals call them “Chaoshou, ” at a family restaurant where they’re made to order.

All the Noodles: Originally served on the street by men who carried the ingredients around on bamboo poles, Dandan noodles are possibly the OG hawker dish.

Classic Sichuan Dishes: Sample local delicacies like Mapo Tofu (there’s plenty of not-so-spicy dishes here too).

Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Chengdu, Chengdu, Sichuan

End the night trying house-made plum wine in a 70s-80s themed bar that captures a unique turning point in China’s history. The bar is a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway station.

Duration: 30 minutes

Really enjoyed it, especially the variety of foods and seeing the city through the tuk-tuk. Our guide Olivia was great and we ended up staying late trying different drinks at the brewery with her. Only problem was too much food!

I have previously done a food tour with Lost Plate in Xi'an so I was pretty pumped to have the chance when visiting Chengdu. The tour guide was very sweet and made sure we always had a cold beer in hand. I was traveling with 4 other friends and 1 baby. The others on the tour were really pleasant ...

The choice of food was excellent and unique for me to try while traveling by myself. We finished at a brewery which was also good with Chinese wine and plum wine. The...

As a foodie from Northern California, this tour is a great introduction to the cuisine of Chengdu. It has demystified all that we see on the streets and restaurants. Olivia chose a great representation of Sichuan cuisine. I can’t imagine a more qualified guide than her!!!

Highly recommend, Olivia is the best food tour guide! I especially liked when she showed us how to open the rabbit head - don't be afraid to try it! She was very attentive to all our needs and always ready with more food and drinks for us. Lost Plate with Olivia should be included in every visito...

This was an amazing addition to my trip to Cheng Du. We went to four different restaurants and a brewery. I loved all the food choices. They were very diverse and delicious. I loved the focus on local cuisine which I wouldn’t have gotten to experience on my own. Our tour guide Olivia was amazing!...
