This was an energizing and immersive experience that marks one of my more memorable experiences in Madrid. Our guide was enthusiastic about Spain, its culture and its food. They were really effective about explaining details about food, traditions and settings and found a way to weave these explanations into natural flowing social conversation. Our small group was invited into out-of-the-way marketplaces and stores and we were able to observe the connection the guide had with each owner and also learn how to interact. (For me trying to learn some Spanish this was an added delight...) I relished the walk, adored the tastes and was amazed at the sheer amounts of food layered throughout the tour. I learned so much, and had a wonderful time and would recommend this to anyone who is inclined to get an authentic glimpse of Madrid culture facilitated by someone who is obviously well-connected and liked by the shop owners. Do this early in your visit to Malasana so that you can feel completely oriented! My husband and I did a the neighborhood Malasana Market and Tapas tour and highly, highly recommend it. My husband and I did a the neighborhood Malasana Market and Tapas tour and highly, highly recommend it. The immersion into the neighborhood was fascinating and "non-touristy. Margit and her colleague were wonderful guides, knowledgable and fun to be with. Margit has also been an invaluable and generous resource for suggestions for the rest of our time in Madrid and beyond. In fact, we were so impressed we signed up for a wine tasting and tapas evening tour with Margit's business partner, Amy, who has the best title of any job in the world-Chief Wine Officer. Amy knows a ton about Spanish wine and was able to share her knowledge in an approachable and interesting way. We learned a lot and had a great time. Amy, too, is very generous about sharing suggestions for additional things too do/drink/taste. My husband and I have done a lot of tours all over the world. These two were definitely among our favorites! What a wonderful experience! We enjoyed every minute. The food was amazing, and we truly experienced an inside’s perspective on the food scene in Madrid. Would go again in a heartbeat!!
