Al was a great travel guide. He is a local (of 40 years) and knows Edinburgh well. He took us through the Grass Market, across the Royal Mile via small streets, and over into New Town where we were able to sample various treats from four different establishments. It was a lot of walking, but the information and stories given, the good company, the great food (and drinks) made it all worth it. I would definitely recommend this tour!A former food critic, Jonathan provided a 5-star overview of Edinburgh and Scottish food for the Edinburgh Old & New Town Food Tour. Had a fantastic evening with our guide Jonathan regaling us with local anecdotes of Edinburgh’s past whilst winding our way through the streets for some fab food and drinks! Wandering through Grassmarket, through alleys (or ‘closes’) we ended up at one of Edinburgh’s finest ‘Makars Gourmet Mash Bar’. Not fancy just really good Scottish food (black pudding, beef shoulder with a glass of Edinburgh rhubarb gin). It was so good we went back the next day for a full meal! We moved on elsewhere for a very special whiskey tasting, continuing to a fab place for charcuterie at ‘Le Di Vin’. Of course dessert came next at another funky little wine cellar venue accompanied by a jazz band playing in the background! What a fun night - places we would never have found ourselves! This is a great way to start a visit to Edinburgh; Jon had a wealth of information and recommendations to ensure your food experience in thoroughly enjoyed!! We would definitely recommend with flying colors! We enjoyed getting off the old town tourist track into some less visited locations. A good selection of eating and drinking locations. My favourite, the Whisky Club

Our guide was very knowledgeable and clearly loved his city. The food options they give you are great. My only complaint was it seemed as though the restaurants were surprised to see us or not expecting us. Someone even asked “do we have reservations?” To which our guide confirmed we did. It just seemed a bit odd and a little off, but overall we enjoyed the experience.
