This was the first thing we did when we arrived in Amsterdam, as we wanted an overview of the city before we started exploring. It fit the bill perfectly. David was very knowledgeable and engaging, and we came away with a good overview of the city's history, and a couple or restaurant recommendations as well!

Easy booking through Viator and easy to find the Freedam guide at the meeting point . Our guide was Nina - who was lovely, friendly, knowledgeable and had great stories which gave us a fantastic introduction to Amsterdam’s history. A wonderful tour!

Dani was an excellent tour guide!! He was informative, funny, flexible, genuinely interested in being our guide for the morning. We arrived late to the tour and missed the first stop due to logistics in traveling from the airport. He welcomed us into the group without missing a beat. David our tour guide was very entertaining, fun and informative. As a local boy, he knew Amsterdam well and was more than able to answer all of our questions. We would highly recommend this tour as a starter and introduction to the city.

Johnny is an excellent guide, full of knowledge, humour and candor. This is a comprehensive tour and you get the full flavour of Amsterdam from the beginning to the end. No stone is left unturned, you can ask him questions and he brings in even more knowledge as.a response. We went to Rijskmuseum the next day and Johnny’s tour played as audio guide in our brains. That is how amazing and complete this tour is!

Walking tours are an excellent way to learn about a city. The guides are well briefed and communication is very good.

Did this tour a few hours after arriving in Amsterdam and it gave us a good baseline to learn about the city and some additional stops we wanted to make for our visit. David was entertaining and very educational.

It was a pretty bad rainy day when we did this tour but David the tour guide made it fun. His knowledge of the history of Amsterdam was brilliant but it would have been better if he included other interesting things that we could do as tourist visiting the city.

If you're in Amsterdam, do yourself a favour and book a walking tour with Freedam Tours! We were lucky to have Daan as our guide and despite the awful weather and hail we encountered, Daan was incredibly professional, funny, sweet and so knowledgeable. He is from Amsterdam and told us so many wonderful stories and anecdotes. Book it - you won't regret it!

Nina was a great guide, very knowledgeable, informative, warm and friendly. The tour lasted about two hours and we learned so much about the history of Amsterdam. It isn’t a tour for anyone wanting the main places of interest pointing out, it is more about the history of the city. There is no fixed charge for the tour, you just pay what you think it is worth so book directly via their website, not via any other search engine.

Really fabulous walking tour. It was easy to find the group at the pick up point as there was several guides with bright yellow umbrellas and tote bags. Esi, our tour guide, was super friendly and very funny & engaging. She made us feel very comfortable as a group too so we also got to know one another. She was very knowledgable about everywhere we went and had no problem answering any follow up questions either. We also left the tour with a document full of restaurant recommendations, ideas of things to do and discount codes to other attractions. This is a tip based tour and I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt it was very worth the good tip we left for Esi.

My tour guide was the beautiful and smiling face of Lisanne. The overall experience with her was excellent. Lisanne's warmth and enthusiasm brought a vibrant energy to the tour, making every moment engaging and enjoyable. Her extensive knowledge of the local history and culture added depth to the experience, providing fascinating insights at every turn. David was amazing! He lead us to the most interesting historical sites, telling great stories along the way. I’d definitely go again!

Please don’t put tours like this online. A tips based model is not appropriate - this should have a set fee. I would be interested to know how many people book then realise that this the case. What I paid only covered a booking fee - nothing else

Sergio from FreeDam Tours was fabulous! Cannot recommend this tour enough. He was super informative, engaging, and fun. Wish I had a geography teacher like him back in school. Saw all the meaningful sites in the central quarter, and got a good (but never boring) understanding of the history in easily digestible way. Love that he has a private website with recommendations and was able to answer every question. Three things to be aware of: (1) tour ran almost an hour longer than advertised. We were having so much fun, it didn’t matter, but could be tough if you have early dinner reservations. (2) He doesn’t provide or use headsets, so the only talking is when he stops and you have to gather in close. (3) Sergio walks fast! I didn’t mind, but might be an issue for others. Mind you, none of these detracted from this great tour!
