I learned how to cook Hainanese Chicken Rice woohoo! with the beautiful Chef Sara. She is kind and friendly and also shared some knowledge on different varieties of special herbs in her garden. I am definitely saving some cash from now onwards coz cooking is less expensive than eating at restaurants. And of course home cooked food simply tastes better and you're in control of the ingredients. I love the calamansi juice too. Can’t wait to cook what I’ve learned at home to share with my family & friends. Thank you Sara & see you soon.My daughter is an avid cook, so we celebrated her birthday with a family vegetarian cooking class with Sara, preparing and cooking (and eating!) nasi lemak, vegetarian rendang, cabbage with turmeric, ondeh-ondeh and teh tarik. My daughter is an avid cook, so we celebrated her birthday with a family vegetarian cooking class with Sara, preparing and cooking (and eating!) nasi lemak, vegetarian rendang, cabbage with turmeric, ondeh-ondeh and teh tarik. The four of us (parents, and kids aged 13 and 14) all enjoyed the very interactive class, as well as learning more about Malasyian cuisine and culture. I am already planning to bring family and friends here when they visit. The morning started with a light breakfast of delicious blue-coloured tea (made from plants from the garden) and a range of local roti - plus some very thoughtful kuih muih as a birthday cake for my daughter. We then had a fascinating tour of Sara’s organic herb garden, smelling and tasting different leaves, and cutting some fresh to be used in our cooking. We were each given a recipe booklet, though Sara talked through everything, so they were more for future reference, rather than use on the day. Sara ensured that we were all involved in preparing and cooking each of the dishes, and discussed cooking tips and recommendations on where to find particular ingredients afterwards. Monkey head mushrooms are the way to go! After cooking all the delicious dishes, we sat down to eat, and Sara (and her mother) joined us to chat about Malaysian cooking, culture and life! Covid protocols were reassuring, with us all taking tests beforehand, and then using masks and distancing throughout. Would highly recommend. Our family of 6 (2 adults, and 4 children ages 12, 11, 8 and 6) thoroughly enjoyed our morning of cooking at Sara's home kitchen in KL. Our family of 6 (2 adults, and 4 children ages 12, 11, 8 and 6) thoroughly enjoyed our morning of cooking at Sara's home kitchen in KL. We were looking for a fun learning experience for our kids and a chance to understand more about Malaysian ingredients. We got all of that and more. Sara was extremely patient with each of our children and included them in all activities. My kids left with big plans to cook many of the recipes at home - which we are confident we will be able to do thanks to the cute recipe book Sara provided and all of the additional tips we received. We made nasi lemak, spiced chicken and some other classic Malaysian cuisine. I loved that we got introduced to a bunch of exotic Malaysian herbs and plants in the organic garden there, hand picked them and utilised them in cooking. It’s definitely a great way to experience the Malaysian culture since you get to know little things associated with fascinating Malaysian food. It made us appreciate the food we eat in Malaysia so much more and the food we cooked were really delicious. I loved the experience as we are foreigners and it’s a great way to connect with the local culture. My husband and I met Sara several years ago and I recently learned she was teaching virtual cooking classes during the Covid-19 lockdowns. My husband and I met Sara several years ago and I recently learned she was teaching virtual cooking classes during the Covid-19 lockdowns. Since we live on the other side of the world, we never thought we’d have the opportunity to take a class in person, so this was a great opportunity to learn from her about Malaysian cuisine! We attended Sara’s Nasi Lemak and Fried Chicken class. From the moment we signed up, Sara was attentive and thorough in our planning via email, assuring we had proper cooking tools, could find ingredients or alternatives in our local stores, and had appropriate technology to join the meeting, even accommodating multiple time zones! Sara educated us on the cultural significance of the dishes we cooked while demonstrating techniques that were easy for us to follow. She adjusted to the virtual setting by offered tips on how to adjust flavors and assure proper cooking based on color, texture, and smell, and we successfully created and plated delicious meals! Afterword, we agreed that the garden tour and Q&A session she offered while we were frying chicken was our favorite part of the class— like a mimi-vacation during a time when we cannot travel! This was SO MUCH FUN! This was SO MUCH FUN! II found the virtual cooking class by Sara to be one of the best ways to learn Malaysian cooking from home - WAY BETTER than watching YouTube. Having Sara guide me through each step and explain all the details was so valuable and her expertise shines through as soon as you connect with her. She knows her stuff! For my first class (I will be doing many more, Malaysian food is some of the best in the world and Sara is incredible!) , I requested Nasi Lemak, and WOW, I was so surprised by how delicious it turned out for my first time! As a beginner cook, I was not expecting that I could actually make something that delicious! And that's all because of how Sara guides you through each step and tells you exactly when to do what at the right time and explains to you why! She has excellent skills and learning from her can help you improve much faster than trying to learn from online recipes or YouTube, it's definitely a worthwhile experience. And even though the class was online, I think it was just as good as in person, because Sara went above and beyond by helping me before and during the class with the requirements. It was an amazing experience, especially during these times! I will be doing more classes!
