What to expect
Guests should be in Victoria Falls Village at least one day before the first day of the raft trip as pre-departure briefings are held one day prior. This will give you a chance to meet your raft guides, discuss the adventure that lies ahead of you, ask any last minute questions and also get things like dry bags and sleeping bags. Guests should breakfast at their hotel prior to pick up at 9 am when they will be driven to our office where the river safety briefing is held. The first part of any rafting experience is very much a learning exercise followed by Swimming Under The Spry Of The Victoria Falls, however today there is no gradual build up; Depending on the water level this 26km stretch on day one is by far the wildest section of river that will be covered. This trip including many class 4 and 5 rapids. Some of the rapids on day one include Morning Glory, Stairway to Heaven, Land of The Giants, and The Devil's Toilet Bowl . We will reach our beach campsite at rapid #21 at about 4 pm.
Day 2, 3 & 4 Rafting
We rise as the sun illuminates the towering walls above, to the smell of bacon and eggs on the fire. Then, with all the equipment once more stowed securely for the voyage down stream, and a long day ahead of us , we cast off into a world of exhilarating action and scenes of remarkable beauty. We will have about 3 portaging around Moemba Falls, Dam Site Falls & Deep Throat rapid.
We have some nice rapids including Ghost rider, the biggest commercially run-able roller coaster wave train in the World.
Day 5 Rafting
The river really changes character. Basalt rocks give way to grassy banks and the grunts of vocal hippopotamus carry across the water. Our rafts drift past islands in the river, havens for Egyptian Geese and basking crocodiles. After a couple of hours, we rendezvous with our vehicles near the Matetsi River mouth. After packing up and deflating the rafts we head back to Victoria Falls by road, having lunch on route. The journey back takes about 3 hours. After taking time out to unpack and freshen up, a group dinner and party is always a favorite option.

I did a 5 day trip with Shockwave rafting in November, and it was an amazing experience. The first day was an exciting rapid filled day with a very talented guide. We had an older couple on the boat and the guide was able to keep them safe while at the same time giving us all an exciting day. As the trip progresses, the rapids get more infrequent, but the scenery is stunning the whole way. The camps were beautiful! I've done the Grand Canyon several times, and the camps on the Zambezi are equally as impressive. Shockwave organized porters to carry down resupplies throughout the trip. No small feat considering we were in the bottom of a canyon. The guides and cook were super friendly, professional, and really fun to be around. I have recommended this trip to countless people since getting back. It would be worth the trip to Africa just to do this trip. It is an incredible bargain for the price Shockwave charges.I and my x2 teenage girls undertook the 5 day rafting tour in Aug 23. I and my x2 teenage girls undertook the 5 day rafting tour in Aug 23. All communication with Shockwave prior to the trip was good, with a rapid response to emails, and they were willing to change the departure date of the trip (requested well in advance!) to fit our schedule. There were 8 on our trip so 2 after, one for pax and one for kit. The headline rapids on Day 1 were of course awesome, but there were actually rapids all the way through to the end of day 4 (albeit the last Grade 5 was on Day 3, and there were longer stretches of calm water between the rapids as the trip progressed). The scenery was amazing, we were within the Gorge for the first 4 days with only the occasional fisherman's thatched hut as evidence of human habitation. Lunches and overnight camps were on white sandy beaches on either side of the river, with evening dinner cooked over a camp fire. Food was plentiful, varied and tasty, including traditional nshima on the last night. There were swim sites at the camping spots on the first 3 nights; crocs appeared by day 4 and hippos by 5 which prevented swimming thereafter! Overall, a fantastic "get away from it all" trip with periods of adrenaline but plenty of chilled paddling along the calmer stretches, great crew, and we enjoyed it immensely - thank you.I was so happy with this multiday trip with Shockwave. I was so happy with this multiday trip with Shockwave. I had some questions to start with and the ladies at the front counter was more then happy to help and every staff member was so welcoming. It was one of the best trips I have ever done and I would recommend this company to anyone that is looking for a multiday trip or even just a single day. The safety aspect of the staff was great and they made sure to always look after every person on our raft no matter what ever skill they had. I WILL BE BACK!!!!!This was absolutely what I was hoping for when I booked. Five days of rafting - 3 with some serious rapids and two more of scenery and camaraderie. This was absolutely what I was hoping for when I booked. Five days of rafting - 3 with some serious rapids and two more of scenery and camaraderie. An excellent crew made for an amazing time on the river. Tap's knowledge of the river and how to read the rapids was obvious from the beginning of day 1 - if he's your guide on the river, rejoice - because you are going to have a blast, hitting the deepest holes and riding out the biggest waves. JD, our safety kayaker, was man on the spot when we did end up in the river (and you probably will too, if you're good with that) and he was an absolute pleasure around the campfire - although he still owes me two bottles of Cheeky Chili Sauce. The remainder of the crew (Morton & Wellington) were less talkative - but were also a blast, knowledgeable, and helpful all the time. The five day trip is a LOT of work - for everyone involved. If you are just looking for the big rapids, I would recommend the 2.5 day trip. You'll get some amazing rafting and a couple of campfires - but if you want to bond with your new raft-mates & the crew, book the 5 day trip. What a great trip!! What a great trip!! Massive rapids, loads of animal sightings and nights around the campfire rounded out a perfect whitewater adventure. Our Shockwaves team - Tabs "River Dad", JB "Pumba," Morton and Wellington were extremely welcoming, professional, and did everything they could to make sure we were safe and having fun. We made lifelong friendships with these hardworking guides and hope to visit them again soon. Don't go elsewhere for tours in Victoria Falls, let Shockwaves show you around!
